This hardcover NIV Bible makes a great gifting Bible for your Christian youth group, small group, or church, as a going-away gift for the college-bound. If you an Intervarsity leader, this would make a great door prize or raffle item for you next campus meeting.

The Bible has good features: a comprehensive set of reading plans (Full Bible, topical, or overview), Table of Weights and Measures, and blank pages for Journaling.

Interspersed in the text of the Bible are devotional readings that cover everything from Saint Francis of Assisi to the fire chief of the San Francisco Earthquake. Each devotional reading includes the verse of Scripture that you are currently on, a short devotion (two or three paragraphs) and then three questions for further thought or discussion. For example, in the Book of Job, the discussion questions are: "Identify some instances of nature humbling us before God. What comfort do we have in the midst of incomprehensible events? What have you been putting off that you want to do before it's too late?"

This is not a study Bible, it is intended for personal reading and devotional use. The Apocrypha is not included (for Catholics).

After taking a long look at the format and content of the NIV College Devotional Bible, I can't imagine a finer, more useful gift for a Christian college student. Away from home and their parents' influence, it's easy for a young student to stray from their beliefs. A few minutes a day with the College Devotional Bible could be just what many students need to reinforce their faith and satisfy their spiritual needs.

The NIV, which includes the sixty-six books of the Protestant Bible, is not quite my favorite Bible translation, but for accuracy and clarity, it's hard to beat. In the NIV College Devotional Bible, interspersed with the scriptures are daily devotionals, each consisting of a Bible passage, an inspirational true story that relates to the scripture, and three thought-provoking questions for the student to ponder. I perused enough of the stories to be impressed with the stories' connection with the daily Bible passage and their application to a student's life. The stories also served as effective lead-ins for the three questions at the end of each devotional.

The NIV College Devotional Bible includes a subject index and several Bible reading plans, including "One Year Through the Bible."

There are many great editions of the Bible available, both in print and online. This Bible separates itself from the pack by presenting additional materials aimed specifically at college students but that work just as well for the most part for high school students, too.

The devotions and "for further thought" questions make this Bible a worthwhile purchase for any Protestant college student. I haven't come across a reliable, similarly focused Catholic Bible or I'd recommend that, too.

(This edition contains the traditional Protestant Bible and doesn't include all the books that Catholics deem canonical. There are some great study Catholic Bibles available, like Catholic Study Bible or one of the books in the Ignatius series, like Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: New Testament. These are not devotional works in the same way that the NIV College Bible is.)

I have a daughter thats in college and is being exposed to all the college life along with the professors anti religion indoctrination that is so prevalent in schools these days.

When I handed it to her she thought it was just a regular Bible and kind of just said thanks. You know that half hearted not really interested type of reply. I just let it be for a little while. then said to her as she was leaving that I think she will enjoy the stories in the devotional.

She looked at me and said what stories and that she thought that it was "jsut a bible". When I went into some of the stories details that I saw when I scanned the devotional she became more interested and curious. That is what you are looking for. Get them curious, and since it has stories that relate directly to them and their current circumstances. There you have it.

This bible is great for college students who have busy schedules, helps keep up studying the word with devotionals, index of interesting relatable subjects, and different 30 day reading plans enough for the whole year! As a college student this bible was a blessing!

This is a unique Bible that targets young adults or college students. First, it is in the New International Version, which is easy to read. Second, it has 222 devotions with insights, applications, questions, and applications. A sample will appear below...

ALL I NEED

The Israelites have returned to Jerusalem after 70 years of exile in Babylon. Zechariah wants them to start off on the right foot with God, so he urges them to depend on God for everything they need. (In the process, they will show their pagan neighbors that the Lord is indeed capable of providing for them.) The Israelites recognize that a good harvest would be a tangible sign of God's blessing, so Zechariah urges the people to pray for rain.

Trusting God to meet all your needs is tricky business. Many people find it difficult to let go of specific aspects of their lives - finances, for example - because they're uncomfortable with uncertainty. However, those who manage to turn over complete control to God are blessed in ways others cannot imagine.

As far as sales pitches go, the one Hudson Taylor presented in the mid-nineteenth century was not exactly what you'd call enticing. Taylor's goal was to recruit missionaries to accompany him to China, which at the time was still a land of mystery and danger for Westerners.

Taylor didn't try to sugarcoat the situation. Ne made it clear that all would-be volunteers that a boat trip ti the Chinese mainland would be long and brutal, the opposition to Christianity in China often turned violent, and that grave illness and injury would be ever-present threats.

Taylor also explained that, unlike other missionaries, he and his fellow workers would not solicit financial backing from supporters.
