5.0 out of 5 stars Award NIV Burgundy
This is the perfect gift for someone who is searching for Christ and is struggling with the heavy wording of the King James version. My friend has complained that she just cannot understand other versions and so my choice as a gift to her is this easy to understand NIV. Christ comes alive in the pages of God's Holy Word. God's Word remains in tact, it is just simply...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good General Use Bible
This bible is very adequate for general use. The NIV is very easy to read and uses common languages. This is very good except for it alters classic passages and at times doesn't represent the poetic quality of the original texts adequately. It's print is pretty small but easy to get used to. Red lettering of Christ's words is very helpful. This bible tends to translate...

My friend has complained that she just cannot understand other versions and so my choice as a gift to her is this easy to understand NIV. Christ comes alive in the pages of God's Holy Word. God's Word remains in tact, it is just simply easier for a beginner. If someone is seeking to know God, he must get into the Word of God and those other versions can intimidate a tendet heart. I praise God that a simple version is available and at such a good price...that makes it easy to give to someone who truly needs the Lord right now!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars cheap Bible for giving though not the best for study, August 21, 2001
This printing of the NIV edition is a great beginner's Bible or one to give away to friends, though not the best for serious Bible study or intensive in-line notes. The font is rather small and the paper a bit dusty, though it does the job. Red-letter for Christ's words is helpful, though not an innovative feature. This printing was my very 1st Bible and I'll definetly have fond memories with it though the time has come to pass along the good book, the best book.

Red lettering of Christ's words is very helpful. This bible tends to translate words favoring the Conservative-Evangelical views. All in all I would recomend this bible for the casual reader. If you want a study bible check out the Concordia Self Study Bible, a Lutheran NIV bible, or the Access Bible which uses the NRSV translation, which tends to be more literal in the tradition of the King James bible. I give the Bible 3 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Bible for Reading, August 3, 2001
By A Customer
The New International Version of the Bible is used by many evangelical groups and conservative protestant denominations. It is very readable but alters classic passages to do this. It is a good Bible for reading, but has limited footnotes, and they are repetative. For study though, I would recommend the New Revised Standard Bible because of its balance of poetic quality of that in the original manuscripts and the meaning of the passages.

Overall I give the NIV a four star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars review of Gift and Award Bible - Blue flexable cover, September 1, 1999
By A Customer
This is a good low priced Bible to give kids. I give them away to kids in a detention center and they all like them. I have purchased several dozen by now.
