NIV Men's Devotional Bible: New International Version

In the summer of 1994 I received the original hardcover version of the NIV Men's Devotional Bible through a book club. I hadn't intended to use it myself, rather I thought that it might make a nice gift for a friend. After I started going through the daily readings and the accompanying devotions, I decided to keep it for myself. Although I've been a Christian for many years, I've always found it to be beyond my level of self-discipline to continually practice the habit of daily Bible readings; using this Bible, I changed that. Although it still took me nearly two years to read through the one year of devotional readings, for me that was infinitely better than any other daily devotional books or Bibles, none of which I have ever finished. Since that time, I am now going through it for the third time.

I can't say enough about how this edition of the Bible has changed my life. The Bible will change anyone's life, if that person is willing to read it and meditate on what it says. This Bible edition, for the first time, helped me to do that on a daily basis. Since I started reading it, I have given it as a gift to nearly every male friend of mine, always in the hope that they will gain from it some of what I've received.

If you'd like a good taste of some of the better devotionals, and if it's possible either to find them on-line or at your local bookstore (Walmart used to carry it, even), I'd especially recommend looking at the devotions in Song of Songs (aka "Song of Solomon"). The beauty of the devotional writings is their depth and breadth, which is incredibly diverse. While there have been some readings which did little to challenge or encourage me, I'm more impressed by how many actually did.

The best recommendation that I can give for this book is this: Any male Christian who uses this Bible as a devotional tool, reading and meditating on the daily Scripture readings, will grow to know, love, and obey God in a deeper sense. I believe that those who know me would agree that God has used this in my life to make me more loving and sensitive, as well as more assertive and outspoken about my faith.

As I struggle to renew my faith and walk with the Lord Jesus, I find this devotional Bible an excellent way to start and end the day. It's comforting how each daily devotion seems to address deeply personal issues regarding my feelings and concerns regarding being a better husband, father, and, most importantly, a better Christian. Highly recommended.

The New International Version Bible has been my personal favorite translation for nearly twenty years. And this Men's Devotional Bible is, perhaps, my favorite edition of the NIV Bible. In addition to the Word of God to guide one's daily walk with Christ, this Bible contains many great devotions to help draw a man closer to God. This Bible is loaded with writings from Dietrich Bonhoeffer, C.S. Lewis and St. Francis of Assisi, as well as contemporary writings by Charles Colson, Billy Graham and Chuck Swindoll, to name a few. There are also some great devotions by professional athletes such as Dave Dravecky, Orel Herschiser, Mike Singletary and Reggie White. Also included are author biographies of the devotional writers and a subject index. Altogether, the NIV Men's Devotinal Bible is a great devotional Bible for men to help them become better husbands and fathers in addition to growing closer to God.

I found this version of the Holy Bible to be delightfully re-affirming. The thoughtful quotes sprinkled throughout are helpful in establishing a better male identity for yourself.

Even if you are not Christian you'll find this Bible full of quotes that might make you think in a more spiritual way.

I ordered this for my husband for Christmas and I am quite pleased. The bible is beautifully presented in hardcover and the cover is of a rowboat on a lake in shades of tan. It's a very contemporary presentation and I think it's welcoming to men, particularly those who may be new to the faith. I think he'll love it.

The NIV text is great as it's very understandable. The daily devotions are outstanding. There is one for every day of the year. They are written not only by ministers/pastors, but also Christian surgeons, athletes, accountants, writers, teachers, etc. They give personal, but Godly, perspectives on all aspects of a man's life. They address issues specific to those striving to be real Christian men in this world. (This is the 1995 publication, but I still think it's wonderful. After reading through his, I'm going to get the Women's Devotional Bible!)

The only thing missing for me is that I wish there was space after the devotions for the reader to make personal notes/reflections. However, that's a minor thing because you can always make notations in the margins if you wish.

To everyone who Loves a Godfearing Man or simply a Man who is search of the Truth and a sweet devotion for the day.... this book shall become His tool!! This book is simply amazing, as not only does it provide scripture for our loved Man to read it provides a daily reading to apply to His life which shall direct His day. Simply beautiful. And for anyone who has a Godfearing Woman in their life, the Woman's devotional Bible is equally just as wonderful. I have that too. This Bible places scripture and daily devotional in terms easy to understand and comprehend, which allow all of Us..... to take it straight to Our heart and apply it!!! :-)

I ordered the green covered devotional Bible pictured but recieved a different devotional Bible (multi colored cover). It is for my son and I was ordereing a replacement for the one he lost. Somewhat disappointed. Too late to return. He is in the Army and was looking forward to recieving it.
