NIV/The Message: New International Version, Parallel

I have been using the NIV/The Message Parallel Bible by Zondervan prior to buying this Bible but having the larger print and the verse numbers with The Message makes this even a better Bible. It makes it much easier to match the NIV text with the corresponding Message text. As a result I highly recommend this Bible. Recommendations for even a better Bible is to have a red-lettered edition (Christ's words in red), a concordance and maps. The KJV/Amplified Paralled Bible by Zondervan has Christ's words in red and a concordance. I noticed that Zondervan is coming up with a limited edition available for the NIV/The Message Bible around September 2007 that will include maps.

Excellent Bible. My favorite two versions in parallel. What more could one ask? For thicker - or less transparent pages. Even with 'light' black print {which, is only lightly objectionable}, the 'bleed-through' of print to the next page IS objectionable.

I'm aware of compromise - but, I think I'd opt for a thicker Bible {it's 1 3/4 inches thick}. Or, an overall larger Bible {it's 9 X 6 inches}.

That's my only complaint.

The pluses? Readable size print and verse numbers in the Message Bible.

All-in-all, I LIKE IT!

I've had a lot of Bibles over the years. This one rates as probably my favorite. I've been a fan of NIV for many years but having The Message alongside is great. It brings a freshness to whatever I'm reading. The size is perfect in my opinion. If you're looking for a Bible to tuck into a purse though, I'd go with a smaller dimension. The print in this Bible is easy to read. It's not large print, but it's not that tiny print in so many Bibles. Like in the story of The Three Bears, this print is "just right." The cover is flexible and this Bible "feels" good when you hold it. Love it!

This is a large print & it is easy to read even without my reading glasses yet it is not too large to make the book heavy as a boat anchor. I really like that the Bible has verse numbers for the Message so you can compare the NIV & the Message easily.

I love that this book has put my two favorite Bibles into one parallel version. The layout is easy to follow and I like the large typeface.

I love my new NIV/MESSAGE parallel Bible. It's great to be able to read along with the NIV used at church or in Bible study, yet look right next to it to see how the Message translates the same passage. I bought the bonded leather cover to try to keep the size down, since I also got it in the Large Print. It is still kind of big...but not so huge or heavy that I can't take it places. A word about the Large Print - I'm really glad I got it! It's NOT as large a font as is in the Large Print NIV (alone) Bible, but is still better than a regular size font. I think this parallel Bible in a regular font would have been very hard to read. I'm so glad I finally broke down and made this a gift to myself!

A great book and very easy to read - good size print and it has given me a new insight to the Scriptures with the easy to understand language used.

If you prefer either translation included in this parallel Bible, you'll probably appreciate having another translation available. For those who prefer the KJV, you'll almost certainly find the NIV a bit easier to comprehend. And then the Message provides a modern perspective that often brings to life the passage. In our Bible study group, for example, many of us read from the NIV, and quite often we ask for the Message's interpretation to be read aloud.

Simply put is the word of God. So, there really is no way to improve on perfection. I like the parallel bible format because when I am at church the pastor usually speaks from the NIV but when I am doing my own devotionals I love The Message it really is alive for me. The bottom line is Amazon saved a full 20.00 dollars over the retail stores here in Grand Rapids, Mchigan. God Bless you will not be disappointed

This Bible is wonderful. The NIV translation is my favorite one, but still even it is sometimes hard to understand. The message is written in contemporary language so the verses are right there if you want to reference it and obtain clarification of what you have just read in the NIV. I wish it was a red letter edition. That's my only complaint!
