What I like most about this particular version of the Compact NIV Student Bible is the cover. Hardcovers these days don't stand up to use, separating from the binding. This one is paperback so that doesn't happen, and the makers solved the wear-and-tear/small spills problems with a removable vinyl cover. Something I didn't realize until purchase is that it has 2 double-sided inserts that let you choose from 4 feminine design prints. The prints seem like they'd appeal to middle through college age groups. The owner can always insert their own creation as well.

I used the Compact NIV Student Bible in high school and college, and found it more "grown-up" from the colorful Teen Study Bible I'd worn out using in middle school. This Bible is a nice size--small without compromising with ultra-small print. Some of the extra application notes are helpful, but there aren't very many of them. A study Bible would be best if you're looking for comments and application. This one's good for going to church or retreats.

I love this Bible. The cover is really fun, especially for girls, as you can use any of the four provided designs OR insert your own covers / pictures. You can change them as you go. I put a favorite prayer in the cover of mine. The plastic cover is very sturdy and the binding secure. Great choice! This is the one I give out the most.

I'm generally disappointed with the quality of Bibles printed these days -- fake leather, glued bindings, cheap paper, cheezy covers. In particular, student Bibles generally don't aspire to any particular greatness. So when I first saw this Bible, I was ready to roll my eyes at the vinyl plastic cover and its inserts.

But what I found surprised me. The inserts are appealing and attractive, the Bible inside is easy to read even in this compact size, and the Bible has a symth-sewn binding, not a glued one, ensuring that it lays flat and will withstand some serious use.

Kudos to Zondervan.

The Student Bible has been a favorite of mine for years, ever since I was a brand new christian. I like to fall back on this bible whenever I need a bible refresher course. This particular version of the Student Bible is beyond fantastic! I love the very sturdy plastic cover and the varitey of covers + the option to creat my own covers. As usual the Student bible is well laid out with excellent commentaries set in two different styles: half-page commentary and smaller "blue box" commentaries scattered throughout the text.

HOWEVER the text of this "compact" bible is impossibly small ~ even with my glasses I cannot read the words without straining my eyes and giving myself a headache! (And trust me, my eyes aren't that bad!)

Zondervan needs to take this fantastic clear-plastic-cover-with-multiple-cover-options idea and expand on it: either offer MUCH larger text in the same size bible or enlarge the bible so that we can have larger text.

Also: I would love to see this same bible style (thick, clear plastic cover with a variety of cover options) offered in other translations, not just the NIV. It would be great to see this bible also in NRSV and NKJV etc.

Because of the font rendering this lovely, feminine bible nearly useless I can only give a rating of two stars. :-(

I bought this for my preteen daughter who is just learning to explore the bible on her own. The student bible has great reading tracks and prompts for anyone who is first learning to navigate their way through this lifelong handbook. And the cover gives her a more age appropriate means of expressing herself in the process. She can change the covers (or create her own) as she learns, changes and grows. Great for the not-yet-grown-up individual who is still discovering their voice and identity as they read about God's intentions for their life.

Great student bible. Lots of different covers for variety. Had problem with 1st one due to a publishing error (pages were missing). Great turnaround. Received replacement 2 days later!!
