Great for an everyday, by the bed, Bible,
By A Customer
This review is from: NIV Student Bible (Hardcover)
I have about 4 or 5 different versions of the Bible, including the more academic Oxford Annotated. I like this one because it is so easy to read. It is not the most erudite or the most beautiful but it certainly is simple and to the point. I take it classes with me and use the commentary (often!) to explain and clarify passages. It is great.

Good Student Study,
By A Customer
This review is from: NIV Student Bible (Hardcover)
The comment regarding the Student Bible as a 2 star is way off. Seems there issue is KJV vs NIV, or NKJV vs. NIV. Either this is a Good study bible. I may also recommend the "life application bible"

As a former Youth Leader, and now a Sr. Pastor, I've purchased about a hundred of these (used) over several years to give to students. They love the compact version, especially the black covered one. Great text and print quality. I keep one in my family room for personal reading enjoyment.

Great Bible,

We were looking for a good Bible to help our teens stay on track with devotions, and came across this one. I really like how they have little bits of information scattered throughout the Bible, along with thoughts to help apply what you're reading to your own life. They have different reading plans (or tracks) to help you make a goal and stick with it. The NIV is easy to read compared to the KJV, and is a good translation. There are lots of helps in the back, as well. Overall, we were very pleased with this Bible and would definitely buy more.

Great for those who would like to get to know God better!,
By A Customer
This review is from: NIV Student Bible (Hardcover)
The NIV Student Bible is a wonderful Bible. It has a 3-Track reading system which will guide you through the whole Bible. You can choose to read from Track-1 a 2 week reading plan which gets you through certain topics such as "The Teachings of Jesus", "Becoming a Christian", "Prayer", etc. The Track-2 is a 6 month reading plan that takes you through the most well-known parts of the Bible. Track-3 is a 3 year reading plan which takes you through the whole Bible. This is a must have Bible!

Great "Learning" version of the Bible,
By A Customer
This review is from: NIV Student Bible (Hardcover)
The Student Bible is a clear-cut, readable (New International) version of the Bible with helpful tips to help you peruse and learn more easily. It includes inserts which add insight to scripture that may appear vague or complicated. I have thoroughly enjoyed this Bible.

I thought this bible would be a great way for me to ease into bible study, and at first it was. But it's not for beginners, it's for people who've read other versions. This student bible has many good intentions, but you know what they say about good intentions don't you? I find the comentary off base and the explanations out of line. For example: in the story of David and Bathsheba The comentary likens Bathsheeba to a Nazi, While the bible likens her to an endeared and beloved lamb. You tell me is somthing wrong with that or what. And while the NIV prides itself on being understandable they overstate the needless while understating and paraphasing the things that need explanation. How? Let me show you: they call hell, grave in Isaiah14:15 I had to look in the King James version for clarity. Now does that sound like this version is easier to understand. I thought I was getting something that would walk me through the bible while holding my hand, but I was misled. If you are a novice try a New King James Version not a NIV and stay away from comentaries at least until you can grasp the meat of the Word, Becase people will have you believing their words and not the Lord's word. Believe in God's ability to help you understand his Word, not Man's ability, because in case you havent been told we're flawed, and doomed to error! Trust God!
