This is an excellent copy of the NIV version of the Bible, featuring three Tracks for reading the Bible, from an introduction to reading every word. In addition to the text, each chapter has a great introduction as well as high points and people you'll meet within that particular Book. I gave this to my son (who is 16) to see what he thought of it, and he said he really liked the layout. The questions and highlights were things that were relevant to him--not patronizing or judgmental. He also really liked the Table of Weights and Measures and the Glossary of People and Places at the end. I found the text size easy to read and the graphics were simplistic and not at all overpowering. I would definitely buy this Bible for my teenagers and any young adult.

Okay, so I am an old guy. I have used the NIV Student Version for 20 years. But now I need a larger print edition, since my eyesight does not have the acuity it once did.

Introductions to the chapters, and the questions through out the pages, make you stop and think. This has served me well for two decades.

Argue translations if you must, but this just works. It is simple. Easy to read. If you want something more complex, try the NIV Study Bible.

If I were buying a Bible for someone new to the faith, this would be the one I'd buy and would recommend.

It has in all respects, been "an old friend."

Who should get this Bible:
If you're a fan of the new NIV (2011 update) and want a Bible with basic study notes, this is great! It provides three reading plan ideas to help people work through Scripture. It also provides a brief topical index and maps in the back for further study. My favorite part is Yancey's guided tour through Scripture. Instead of leaving comments on EVERY verse in Scripture, he hits the highlights. It's like being on a tour with someone who's seen the scenery before and wants to point out the very best to you, not every little detail. This is great for teens who are forming a basic understanding of their faith and trying to comprehend the overall story of Scripture and how it applies to today. In some Study Bibles, I think the attempts at application are a little shallow or too emotionally-driven. This Bible, again, in MY opinion, balances scholarship and application well.

Who should NOT get this Bible:
If you're someone who's read through the Bible several times, been part of Bible Bowl or Awana, or really want to jump into the nitty gritty of Scripture, you won't be satisfied with this text. It is aimed at entry-level readers and offers a big-picture view of Scripture. It is a great introduction to understanding God's Word and can certainly help someone with an intermediate knowledge of Scripture and theology. But for people with a good set of Bible study skills and experience under their belt, look elsewhere.

Considering who this Study Bible is aimed at (teenagers), I believe they addressed their demographic very well. Students with open hearts and curious minds will be blessed to find out that the Bible applies to their lives, is relevant to world issues, and can be understood by everyone.

The NIV student bible is a great all around Bible for students and young adults. It's especially well suited for personal study and devotionals, as well as Bible studies and bringing to church. As a college student, I choose the student Bible for my daily reading while using a Study Bible more for reference.
The leather bound edition is very nice, especially as a gift, and will last a good long time. I'd suggest the hardcover if it will be kept in a Bible cover.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God."
I first purchased this edition of Scripture back in middle school ten years ago for Bible class. It has been with my and has become my favorite edition of God's Word.
I started reading a long time ago--the gospels, Revelation, Acts, and so on. I have found (and still find) the introductions and blue clipping-like notes very helpful.
This book also includes character profiles and an index to whatever subject you want to look up.
I highly recommend reading this book and the NIV translation. If you want opulence you can understand, stick with this edition.
Read Scripture, get involved in church, and have fun! No excuses!

This is my favorite version of the Bible that I have ever owned. This is my first NIV Bible; I used KJV before. I bought this version because I thought that it would help me receive the clarity that I needed in my college bible study group. SInce purchasing this, I have found that the message is so much clearer. My favorite thing about this Bible is the size of the text and the explanations alongside the text. With this feature, it is easy to understand the word in the context of what is happening at the particular point in time.

I generally try not to review Bibles, because I naturally think there is something inherently wrong with the whole idea of it. But since I am certainly not reviewing anything about God's holy Word (or, needless to say, the translations thereof), but I am instead only reviewing the marketing aspect of book, then I suppose my review could prove helpful to at least some people looking to purchase a brand new Bible for their own personal study.

The NIV Student Bible that picked up for my Kindle was greatly disappointing, I am sad to say. Being new to my Kindle and the whole e-reader venue, my reasons may be immature and naive, but I will relate them anyway for the sake of sharing my opinion on the issue. I have found the Kindle NIV Student Bible thoroughly difficult to navigate with any speed or ease, because the file is linear (you might recognize the 0% - 100% bar on the bottom) and is only navigable by moving page-to-page or by performing word searches, by going to a location, or by setting and using bookmarks. Page-to-page is certainly a terrible option for when I need any passage past Genesis 1, which leaves me with only one of the three remaining options.

If I were to perform a word search, this may prove useful if I have already memorized key words in verses or if I have the words available in some other way. But this word-search does not work if I desire to look up a passage (for example, if I need Isaiah 30, I may finally get to the book of Isaiah after a great deal of searching, but would then need to scroll through 30 chapters of pages just to get to where I am going).
If I were to go to a location, I would first have to memorize the locations of book openings, or least make educated guesses as to where the books might begin.
