By far the #1 "Bestseller" in my book regardless of the binding or the version. However, the Zondervon NIV is a great "American" translation, if you will. It is written at about an 11th grade level, in contrast to the King James, Old English written at +12grade level. The King James Bible was translated from the ancient scriptures in 1601 by a group of men commissioned by King James. There is absolutely no reason that modern man should not translate those same ancient scriptures into our current language, and that is exactly what the New International translation is. This is not a word by word translation, but a thought by thought. Because of this, there are certain omissions - words and even verses.
According to my reading, the truest modern translation is the New American Standard - which is a word by word translation, and it is written at about a 12th grade level. And for those who say there's only one true translation of THE WORD, I whole-heartedly agree, but it's in Hebrew and Greek - Not King James. Just another opinion...
