Extremely thin for a large print Bible. I use this to give to any new person or convert who wants a Bible they can keep for years to come. Great price. A no lose situation.

Of all the Bibles I own, which are many, this NIV Thinline, large print edition is my favorite. It has two-columns per page with a 11-point type large print which is actually large as compared with most other Bibles that are advertised as large print.

If you're wanting a Bible that's easy to carry, with print that's easy to read, without the all the bells and whistles that comes with those bulky study Bibles, this is the one for you. This Bible does not include references or study notes, nor is there any room in the side margins for writing notes being barely 1/8th inch wide. It includes a 60-page concordance, 8 pages of maps, and a weights and measures chart.

If I had to look for a downside to this Bible it would be that the paper has some bleedthrough, ie., you can just make out the print on the opposite side of the page. But I've gotten used to it, and it's not a distraction any longer. The binding is Smyth-sewn and sturdy, but will lay flat on the desk regardless to what page you're reading.

The NIV ThinLine Bible published by Zondervan, like all the rest of the publications coming out this company, is exceptional! The thin profile of the bible, the large (but not ridiculous) font size, and the book indexes make this a very usable volume for study. The paper used is beautiful, and the leather binding/workmanship really finishes well. I have purchased four of these bibles to date and have been extremely satisfied with the quality of each one received.

I am pretty particular about my Bibles. I prefer devotionals, study notes, commentaries, etc. in a seperate format, and large print not because I need it for my eyes, but because I grew up with a large print Bible and find reading ones under 8-point type torture! The NIV Thinline Bible met all my needs and more. It is sturdy, having been thrown around in my backpack innumerable times, and attractive, coming in navy (this one) and also black and burgundy (ISBN: 0310935725 and 031093575X, respectively).

I have had a previous version of this Bible that I have been very pleased with. This is an updated version with even larger type font, which I like very much. The page paper is a good weight and allows you to make marks with out bleed through. While this version is about 1/8 of an inch thicker than my previous version, the large font makes it well worth it. The top grain leather did not wear out on my old version and I assume that this will be the case for this one. Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone who uses the NIV and wants an easily transported and readable bible.

The overall look of the Bible is very nice, and the font is a nice size for a Bible this compact. However, the pages are so thin that the type bleeds through the back of the page, making it very difficult to read. The type on the page I want to read is cluttered by the type bleeding through from the back side of the page. Even though I have good eyesight, there is no way I'll use this as a daily reader. Very disappointed.

Zondervan makes a multitude of cover styles and sizes in their Thinline Bibles. This review is specifically for the NIV Thinline Reference Bible, Compact. They also offer an alternate version similar in size and style, but it doesn't have the Concordance nor does it have scripture references in the column on each page. Those copies are sold on Amazon and listed without "Reference" in the title, and they also come at a slight discount compared to this version. However, the non-reference versions have more cover options to choose from.

If you're looking for a really good quality, compact NIV Bible then look no further. I received the Italian Duo-Tone cover where the spine is dark brown and the rest is a lighter brown. It's a nice, soft leather that looks sharp and feels good to the touch but isn't too thin. It's a "lay-flat" Bible and should do so once broken in. It should go without saying, but the print size is very small in order to fit so much into a great travel size Bible. It also has a nice presentation page for you to fill out to give as a gift to someone. Overall, the quality seems top notch and I would expect this to last many years of heavy use. Don't use the measurements provided by Amazon though, I just measured the copy I received today at 6.7 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide, and .75 inches thick. It really is three quarters of an inch thick even though Amazon has the measurement at 1.6".

This copy as well as any printed on or after March 2011 should be the newly released NIV 2011 translation. By Googling "Slowley" you can find a great write up detailing the differences in this version compared to NIV 1984 and TNIV. It was created by a software engineer to show a comprehensive list of differences.

"Large Print is not so large.....There was no sample or specificatrion on the font size. Not sure, but the font is a 10 or so, not too good for someone with poor eyesight or someone who has to use a magnifying glass in addition to glasses.
