5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
For someone who owns a zillion Bibles (me!), this bible was a pleasant surprise. It is beautifully presented in a lovely violet print. And the content has been thoughtfully arranged for the reader to get the most out of every page. The Book Introductions and Study Notes are insightful in a way only a woman would appreciate! For instance, I really enjoyed the comparison...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Bible
I was really happy with the way this bible is put together. I love the devotionals and all the "extras". However, the pages on this bible are VERY thin. I like to use tabs for finding the books of the bible, and there is no way you could put those in this bible because they would tear the pages for sure. Otherwise, this would be the perfect bible. I do reccomend it...

For instance, I really enjoyed the comparison of God the Creator in Genesis 1 to a woman bringing order to her household. This work is sprinkled with fresh insights throughout. The 80 Character Sketches of Women in the Bible far outweigh the cost of "another" Bible and to top it off this work presents 52 Bible Studies that are rich with originality and worth every moment of your time to complete. The Book also includes Quotes from all sorts of women including the fantastic Women of Faith conference speakers. And, yes, there are the requisite concordance, maps and column reference system. Because I love to take copious notes I found the wide margins especially appealing. Frankly I have not found one thing in or about this Bible that displeases me. I shall enjoy ruminating about its pages for months to come! In case you aren't sold on this book yet, you should know that a portion of the purchase price goes to International Bible Society to help spread the gospel of Jesus around the world...AMEN!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bible, July 26, 2001

I am glad I got this Bible. Every thing about it is purple. I got the bonded leather. It has a purple cover, print and ribbon. The layout is interesting. On the outside of the page is the comments, the next section is the text of the NIV and on the inner part of the page towards the centre binding are the cross-references. Because the comments are not always long, there are sections under the comments where you can write notes of your own if you want to....spaces are often 3 inches wide by 4-5 inches high. The profiles are excellent, and the comments are spot-on. If you want a doctrine type bible this isn't what you want, but if you want the text to be applicable to you then get it. The 52 weeks studies are both practible and informative. I like the personal touch this bible has for women. There are thought-provoking notes, studies and profiles that make you think about your life in Christ and how you can be better. It is just so woman-oriented that I just want to go back time and again to read the Word of God. You will enjoy it I'm sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars a gem in the sea of women-themed bibles, October 17, 2001
By A Customer
I decided to expand my bible resources to include a women' thematic bible, for although I am a wife and mother, it wasn't an area that I fed (being that I chose to look at leadership-themed sources to develop my personal accountability skills). I purchased several bibles, including "Woman, Thou Art Loosed", "the Women's Life Bible" (both NKJV ) and the NIV Women's Devotional bible. Although I have not attended a Women of Faith rally, I chose to keep this bible (and give away the aforementioned women's bibles to other Christian sisters) because:
1)even-handed notation. It struck me how culturally sensitive the notes were, which helped me think back to those times 1000s of years ago. These opened my eyes to embrace many issues.
2)no glib/rote responses to complex life issues. The other bibles attempted to do that, and while such notation may offer comfort to some, they don't work well for me. For example, I don't want a short paragraph to understand that our Lord wants me to be patient in my marriage. This bible does not offer patronizing and "Precious Moments"-type cutsey notes. Subjects like patience for marriage are supported throughout the bible via different wife stories, and are delved upon in the notations, which I much rather preferred.
3)sober looks at women in the bible, from the famous, like Mary, to the not so famous like Jael. Also, the explanations of the women in Jesus' line are equally even-handed.

All in all, its the best women's themed study bible that I have come across yet. It is spiritually, emotionally and mentally inspiring.

Note of criticism: the concordance/topical index is sparse for a study bible, especially since the notations throughout are so good and thoughtful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Women of Honor Ministries, August 26, 2005
By
I have found this Bible to be very informative and enlightning. I am very involved in Ministries targeting women and it is good to walk through the Bible that addresses the issues that women may or do have. It is uplifting to read about the contributions that women have made in the advancement and uplifting of God's kingdom and his Saints. I have several Women's Bibles and have found this to be a companion to Bibles, such as, True Identity Women's Study Bible.
I strongly recommend this Bible for women who have or are involved with women ministries or who would just like to have a women's perspective concerning God's will for her life.
My disappointment is that I believed I was ordering the purple leather bound Bible. I received the black leather bound. I believe that Amazon should give their customers a color option. I believe most women relate to colorful Bibles in lieu of the traditional black.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!!!, March 8, 2006

Amy LaForte "Amy" (Chittenango, ny United States) - See all my reviews
I bought this Bible about 3 years ago and I love it! It is wonderful. This past year I did all the studies included in the Bible, they really helped me through a hard time.

I was delighted to learn that there is a Young Women of Faith Bible. I bought it for my daughter, I love that the study guides go together in the two Bibles.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wondrous Bible!, March 29, 2005
By
I have the purple bonded leather edition and I couldn't be happier! This is a BEAUTIFULLY designed bible both visually, practically and content wise - you can tell Zondervan put alot of thought and talent & spiritual insight into designing this bible! They use a 2 color design of purple (text and design elements) and green (design elements). The type face is perfect for legibility in thickness and clarity of serif font and point size is perfect for reading. They use a single column design format (which I think all bibles should adopt now) that allows for the 1700 beautifully designed study notes and quotes on every page in the wide outside margins (1.75 to 2"), while still allowing lots of white space left over in the outside margins for note taking (for those women who LOVE to write notes, like me). This bible also includes cross references -so you can really use this bible for studying (they are on the inside margin, legible but not obtrusive). Also, it has 52 weekly indepth bible studies that are deep and thought provoking which make this bible so wonderfully interactive which I love in well designed bibles! (The only drawback is that I wish they allowed space to write your answers in the bible study, perhaps making the underside of the page lined for notes and your answers). On top of that it includes 80 Character Sketches of the women in the bible.

This bible is packed full of amazing features which are full of spiritual depth, couple that with an incredibly beautiful and useful design and you've got one of the BEST bibles out there. You cannot get much better than this (except for the new bible Zondervan has just come out with called the True Identity Bible which is beautiful too!). I am still surprised that this bible hasn't got more written reviews, this boggles my mind! Now if only they could come up with a New Living Translation version of this bible and I would be transported!!! Any body listening out there??

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything is PURPLE about this Bible!, March 20, 2005
I bought the purple leather edition, and everything is purple about this Bible. The cover, the satin ribbon marker and the typed words even have a purple hue. The page edges are edges in silver. Not only is the Bible beautiful, there are Character Sketches of 80 women in the Bible, Study notes (1700), Quotes , and 52 weekly Bible Studies that are the same as the Young Women of Faith Bible for girls 8-12. They just do into more dept in the Adult version. This is extra nice, because both Mom and daughter can study the same theme at the same time--each in a way that they can relate to. This is truely a Bible for women. I bought the Young Women of Faith Bible for my girls and they love theirs too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wondrous bible for women and the men who love them!, August 9, 2002
I saw this bible on the shelf at a local religious bookstore. It caught my eye, when I wasn't looking for a bible. I leafed through it and was immediately entranced by the center-page text in blue, the simple but not stupid notes that really offered me new perspectives (I've been "into" scripture for decades now), and the prayerful but not sappy tone throughout. For women who want a comfortable bible fit that will still challenge, this is the bible. For women who want a bible they will actually pick up and read and use, it is for you.

A previous reviewer mentioned purple leather. I'd love to get one of those, Amazon!!! I, too, love purple. The one I bought is great, though, and as it was a bit shelf-worn, I asked for and was given a discount.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to understand, July 27, 2005
I was admiring my daughter in laws Book on Vacation and I just had to have one of my own. I enjoy reading the bible but this makes it much like a story book reading and the side inserts really gave you something to think about from the lessons.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's got everything I wanted in a Bible..., March 12, 2001

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NIV Women of Faith Study Bible - Violet (Leather Bound)
I'm always fascinated by studies of Biblical women, so this Bible has been good with its little "snapshots" of interesting women in the Bible. There are study notes on each page which, for the most part, you've probably already heard somewhere else, but now and again they surprise you. There's cross-references and tons of space in the margin to scribble your own thoughts down. (That's one of the best parts!). The weekly studies are well-written and thought-provoking, but even though they are "weekly" studies they are not structured like that.
