5.0 out of 5 stars Motion Sensor-Tastic !
Customer Video Review     Length:: 2:10 Mins
I know the motion sensor is supposed to be an energy saving device, which it is (I would guess it saves maybe half the electricity used compared to not having the sensor), but I think the best thing about it is I don't have to bother ever switching it on or off.

I know the motion sensor is supposed to be an energy saving device, which it is (I would guess it saves maybe half the electricity used compared to not having the sensor), but I think the best thing about it is I don't have to bother ever switching it on or off.

I enter my living room it comes on, I leave my living room and it switches off! how cooool!. I update the internal memory about once a month with new photos and that's it. It does have some other unexpected advantages.

Me and the wife like messing around with it, we'll record quick video messages on our camera and stick it on the frame. We then leave the frame in the hallway so when the kids walk through the door late at night they get a 'Why are you home so late message!' and we don't even have to get out of bed!

We're going on holiday next week and we're planning on leaving a video message for any would be burglars that will play when the frame senses them.

I was so proud of myself for researching digital photo frames and finding the NIX brand digital photo frame. I thought I had found just what I wanted in the NIX X10A and ordered it through Amazon last week. All of the other NIX frames I was considering had an aspect ratio of 4:3 which is what I wanted. Nowhere in the discription of the X10A does it give the aspect ratio - at least I can't find it. I was so disappointed when it came today and it has the 15:9 aspect ratio. Why do most of their other frames have the 4:3 but this one has the widescreen? And why don't they make that clear to the buyer? So while this might be a great photo frame (I'm not going to use it) I feel it should have been more clearly described to prevent what is now a very disappointed customer.NIX X10A "Hands Free Frame !" 5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected!!!, April 19, 2010

This review is from: NIX Hu-Motion X10A - World's 1st Energy Saving Digital Picture Frame with Motion Detection Sensor - Turns On/Off Automatically when you enter or leave the room! (Electronics)
Having seen other pictures electronic picture frames, I really did not expect that much more quality than the average brand most people have. WAS I EVER WRONG!

I ordered this as an Easter gift for my Wife, but it seem I really bought for the both of us! Such vibrant, clear, and colorful images are reproduced! I often find myself daydreaming to when some of the pictures were taken (I have loaded family vacations & cruises on the memory card.)

Let's not forget how "brilliant" the motion sensor is on this device! What a true "treat" it is when walking past, and you are surprised with a fantastic slide-show of your favorite shots (have not tried video yet, but that will be soon!)Then setting a certain amount of time to have it shutoff automatically (if no motion has crossed the sensor) .... superb!

I don't get excited to the point of writing a lengthy review, but I have to say I am so happy that I purchased this item, and will be buying more! Fantastic gift and a true enhancement to the living room and bedroom!

By the way, another "plus" is that on the manufacturer's website ([...]), there was mention of a firmware upgrade. I clicked on the link, which generated an email message, and within a few hours I received the file via email (on a SUNDAY!)
OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND an OUTSTANDING PRODUCT!

I bought five of these for work... and they are great!

PRO:
Motion Sensor... I can't imagine buying a frame without one!
Easy to figure out... after a little bit of effort.
Remote works nice.
Great image quality.
Good looking frame with no obnoxious company logo on the front like some other frames.

CONS:
The fade transition is not real smooth, but the other transitions work well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - Quick setup, easy to use, nice looking, June 23, 2010

This review is from: NIX Hu-Motion X10A - World's 1st Energy Saving Digital Picture Frame with Motion Detection Sensor - Turns On/Off Automatically when you enter or leave the room! (Electronics)
Wow - I've tried several digital photo frames - for myself and as gifts (I test them and fill an SD card before giving them so I know they are decent quality) and this is shockingly simple, yet high quality at the same time. The others I have tried were good quality but took some time to figure out. Since all of them took time to figure out, and reviews all said the same about all the ones I looked at, I figured that was normal and just goes with the territory. This one is far above every single other one I have tried. WHY?

You put the SD card in, plug it in, turn it on, and it works immediately. If you like the settings, just have photos etc., you're finished. For those of you who want to give this as a gift to someone who isn't techno-savvy or gets annoyed trying to figure out things - grandparents, parents, any non-electronics person, this is the frame to buy.

The remote actually WORKS!
It automatically shows all photos in the proper view - whether it is horizontal or vertical, they all are viewed properly without having to rotate them at all - however, you can use the remote to rotate, zoom, stop on a picture etc. But - you don't have to because it does it for you.

You can show them in the original format or cropped or variety of other options and anything you want to do can be done by remote.

You don't need a tiny eyeglasses screwdriver to make it function, no button to push in that requires a toothpick to press it in...nothing annoying but forgivable like the others each had something that was annoying but still worth owning. Not this one - nothing annoying or frustrating about it.

Split screen function is optional and shows one, two, three, four photos....however if your photos are all different sizes (like scanned photos that are old 4x4 and some 4x6) then they do show up slightly uneven on the split screen - but it works great and still looks good.

Motion sensor - IT WORKS! 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 min, 24 hours or you can turn it off so if you have it on the wall or on a bookshelf across the room, it will keep running without having to walk by - of course you have a remote so you can change it anyway. I gave it a 3 on energy saver because although it will save energy by using the motion sensor/auto shut off/auto turn on - it's not like it's an air conditioner or a huge TV - it saves power, but really doesn't deserve 5 stars because it's not like it saves much.

Bottom line - it's easy to setup, use, is a quality product and is better than any of the other digital frames I have tried.

3.0 out of 5 stars NIX Review, June 15, 2010

This review is from: NIX Hu-Motion X10A - World's 1st Energy Saving Digital Picture Frame with Motion Detection Sensor - Turns On/Off Automatically when you enter or leave the room! (Electronics)
I was very excited about the product and almost ordered two. I'm glad I didn't based solely on the fact that the component software canNOT handle vertical photos, even if they were rotated in Picassa/Adobe. Otherwise, picture quality is very good and the energy savings feature is great. The directions for downloading pictures to the component were vague. Not sure I'll buy another yet until the software is updated to manage vertical photos.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great frame despite aspect ratio, June 8, 2010
This review is from: NIX Hu-Motion X10A - World's 1st Energy Saving Digital Picture Frame with Motion Detection Sensor - Turns On/Off Automatically when you enter or leave the room! (Electronics)
The reason I only gave this product 4 stars is because of the aspect ratio. I could tell when I bought it that it wasn't the 4:3 ratio that I wanted, but the other features were worth the compromise! The pictures look great and so does the frame itself. You can change the display to fill the whole screen or fit the whole picture on the screen, so in the end, the aspect ratio issue isn't too distracting.

I critiqued many digital picture frames on the internet and even looked to see how Consumer Reports rated various brands. I finally saw the Nix on the internet and after reading the glowing recommendations, ordered the X10A. I just love it. No more need to have prints made and stuff into cumbersome photo albums. I found that Nix had an upgrade available for this model and had some problems downloading it until I contacted Nix and they pointed me it the right direction and now all is well. Great unit and great support.

This review is from: NIX Hu-Motion X10A - World's 1st Energy Saving Digital Picture Frame with Motion Detection Sensor - Turns On/Off Automatically when you enter or leave the room! (Electronics)
Bought this as a gift for my parents who have some level of technology savvy. It was shipped to them directly plus I mailed them a SD chip already loaded with photos that had been rotated correctly using MS Fax and Picture Viewer on my PC. I came to visit right after that with another SD chip and still had not touched any of the defaults. The pictures were viewing in the same order, without the motion sensor and rotating randomly (both SD cards)- that is sometimes the same photo showed horizontal, sometimes vertically and sometimes successively both. Totally random as that same picture may display perfectly on the next go around. I gave up using the buttons on the top and used the remote control "Setup" and changed the settings to "Original" size, motion sensor "ON" and "Random" play. I also played with the brightness and satuaration settings. The photos were still rotating randomly. Turned it off and the next morning when I turned it back on it was working flawlessly, the photos were displayed beautifully, the motion sensor was working and all was good. Even photos I had forgotten to rotate were now displaying correctly. My father turns it off (not remembering the motion sensor) and the next time we turn it on, we have more random rotating but not as bad as originally.

I did not try loading anything on to the built-in memory nor any of the other fancy features so I can't speak for them.

CONCLUSION: The frame is attractive and the resolution and colors pleasing, but the rotating bug could become annoying. I have not tried to contact the company, but really who wants a photo frame that you have to call tech support to make work? I would not purchase this one again as a gift - I could tell it annoyed my dad to have it doing this. My mom is able to ignore this flaw better and just enjoy the photos. Too bad as the motion sensor is a great idea.

Crystal clear image, easy to use if you read the directions, motion detector is fantastic.

Bought this to replace a smaller screen that I had purchased for my wife's office. This one has worked flawlessly with all my photos including ones that were photoshopped and then saved as JPEGs, something the old unit choked on. Images are bright and sharp, and the number and size of image files you can use depends only on the size of the memory card you use. My wife love the fact that she can leave it on all the time and not worry about wasting energy because of the motion sensor device. She loves it, so I love it. Get one, you will not regret the choice.
