I researched digital frames for weeks and weeks before settling on this NIX 12 inch frame. I specifically wanted the 4:3 format, 12 inch frame, at least 800 x 600 resolution. It was hard to find a frame that satisfied these three requirements. I am a brand name shopper and really wanted a Sony or Toshiba. I was willing to pay more for THE BRAND. I thought the Toshiba had the nicest looking frame but I couldn't find it in a 12 inch without the widescreen. I have never heard of NIX but for the price, I thought I would give it a try. I love Amazon because of the return policy I finally decided on this "cheaper" frame. It arrived with excellent packaging. Strong box with lots of protection. The frame is plastic but it is very heavy, very durable. Very sharp looking. I like it much better than the wooden frames. I had 1400 photos loaded in a matter of minutes. It is super easy to use though the instructions I thought were a bit misleading. I am using an SD card and I have an amazing slideshow at random of all my favorite pictures. I haven't even tried the music or video yet. It has already surpassed my expectations. It also splits the screen which I haven't tried yet either. The time of display can also be adjusted. The remote is very adequate. It can be turned off with the remote which some cannot. The color is great. It is a bit dark at a distance due to the slant of the frame but the 12 inch is just such an amazing presentation. I have no dead pixels. I really couldn't be happier with this frame. It is such a pleasure to view. I love this frame. Kudos to NIX which is a new brand to me! Why pay twice as much for a smaller frame? My only disappointment is that I have to work and can't just sit at home and savor the memories all day long.

This 12.1 diag measure picture frame is very nice. MaMa is happy! Now I don't have to listen to all the "...when are you going to develop the pictures..." The only problem that I have encountered is that the editing capabilities (like image rotation) do not work as shown in the instructions. I emailed the company but have not received a reply. The picture quality is most excellent, and the price was too. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it about a 12.

I bought this because my Quantaray frame (10.2 inch) will play jpgs, mpg2 (without the audio portion) or mpg3. Most frustrating for a slide show at a graduation party. This frame has a very nice menu system, easy to use, very intuitive. It played my mpg2 movie easily and without a hitch.
Sounds great, doesn't it? Two things kept me from keeping this frame. First, the audio volume. Level one is so low it can barely be hard. Level 2, however, is very loud. I put packaging tape over the speakers to try to tone it down so that it would not interfere with the small gathering (8 people). I noticed that someone muted it about 1/2 hour into the party. Not good, especially after all the time and work to find the perfect songs and time them to the show.
Secondly, I put this frame side by side with the Quantaray. The Quantary was noticable sharper. That was a disappointment. My Jpg files are about 5MB each. I am not sure if this would be the case with all 12" frames. Perhaps it is simply a function of the size of the frame. Whatever the case, sharpness will win out. Especially since it is rare I want to use music with the frame.
I REALLY wanted this frame to work out. I had tried the 8", but it was too small for my needs. The 10" frames offer features I don't need.

I had no trouble setting up and loading pictures. Operation is fairly simple. Picture quality is great. I did my research on Consumer reports, and read Amazon reviews, and found this frame met all suggested specifications. I highly recommend this model.

I've loaded 240 high-resolution photos into my X12A frame, and I still have room for more! Great features, terrific picture, and the little remote is tough (I accidentally left it in my pants and washed it--still works after letting it air dry for 24 hours). Really cool: the frame lets you play music while the slide show is in progress. A big plus is the customer service. NIX is quick to respond with questions, and they are courteous and knowledgeable. It's the kind of customer service that makes you want to buy another frame from these guys, and I will very soon.

I bought this for my wife to replace a three year old, seven inch, Pandigital that recently died.

It's nice to purchase a product that exceeds your expectations. The Nix frame is packed with features and has a great display. The only draw back is the manual. It is lacking in fully explaining operations clearly. However, they respond very quickly to email, and answered the couple questions I had. Additionally, sometime in July their site is to be updated, with more in-depth directions. As the frame comes, I found that its tilt was at too great an angle for our viewing. The stand is adjustable by removing the six screws on it and extending the stand to make it more vertical. The color is brilliant. There are many transitions and the sound is suitable for the size of the unit. The only problem we have is trying to decide on viewing with full screen or using the split-screen format! A great buy at a reasonable price.

I bought this frame for a gift. I read that it could play mp4 videos so I took a lot of video clips and cut them down to 5-15 clips. I wanted to mix some pictures of the wedding along w/ video. Well, first it will not play any video that is HD. Ok, not a bad deal. I use Sony Vegas so I tried to reduce it down to every known MP4 I could find. Finally I was able to get a video to play after I d/l the free converter app off the manufactures web site. Then the big disappointment came. No random play. I emailed tech support and they respond back in a few hours that it would require a more complex processor and they currently have no plans in providing one.

If you are looking for just pictures, it would be a nice frame. Pleasing to the eyes. But those types are a dime a dozen. THANK YOU AMAZON for the easy return.

I would have given it 4 stars if it would have been able to play both. 5 if it could do HD and had a little better screen.

I got this frame for my husband for Father's Day and he loves all of the features. The most impressive feature is the high quality resolution of the photos. It is really breath taking! I would also recommend getting the 12 inch frame. The larger size is a must have!

If you use a computer to manage your picture files this frame works fine, but if you try to copy or delete files on the frame be prepared for some frustration. First of all the directions in the manual are not correct on how to select the COPY or DELETE functions. Once you have selected the files you want to move or delete, you need to press the MENU key on the remote to get to the commands (not ENTER as the manual says). When I tried to copy files from a memory card to the frame I struggled to get to the volume name of the frame's NAND memory...it took me several tries and I still don't know exactly what I did to make it work.

The frame picture quality is average, but not great...

For the price it is a good value for a 12" frame.

I purchased this item from Amazon after reading the excellent reviews. Previously I had purchased the NIX X08A frame and found it to be a great product. I particularly liked the auto rotate feature (changing the orientation from landscape to portrait and the photos automatically changed orientation to match the new orientation of the frame. My wife and I decided we would like a larger frame so the smaller frame was placed in my office.

The problem with the NIX X12A frame is this: It does not have the auto rotate feature! This may not be a big deal for most users but almost 60% of our photos are in the portrait mode. The lack of this feature was not mentioned in the Amnazon description or the company's. While the photos display fine if the frame is in the landscape mode the size of the photo is no larger than the photo when displayed in the smaller frame. Sadly we decided to return the frame to Amazon. We will wait until NIX adds this feature to the 12 inch frame or a well rated brand offers this feature.

Technical support was excellent via e-mail. Could serve as model for all the big companies that have forgotten what customer service is all about.

I should also mention that Amazon's return policy is great!

Note added - September 9, 2010

Since writing the above review I ordered and received a new NIX X12A. (We could not find a larger screen photo frame with the above feature.) It worked fine out of the box but had a very annoying defect - A metal strip down the left side of the screen. The screen was obviously not mounted properly! It is being returned to Amazon asap. I will try ordering another one shortly.
