NIrV Discoverer's Bible for Young Readers

I wanted a leather bound Bible for my 7 year old boy that wasn't too childish, but that had large print. He always balks at even a 10pt. font size. It also had to be the NIRV translation. Not too picky, huh? This was the perfect fit. There are 10 or 15 full page pictures spread throughout the Bible, but that is about it. I was glad that this Bible was free from those annoying cartoony devotions that kids never read anyway. He is not embarrassed to carry it around because it has a plain navy blue cover, no obnoxious cartoons.

I bought this Bible for my 1st grader who is reading above grade level. We presented it to her with much pomp and circumstance and she was so pleased to have her very own bible that she can read. It's not a "storybook" and it's not my leather-bound grown up Bible. It has a few pictures but not that many. She doesn't seem to care. She is enjoying learning how to look up books, chapters and verses. This is a great exercise in itself. Several times a week, she gets her Bible and sits down at the table to read something. She does this completely on her own without my prompting and I am so pleased. Yesterday she wanted to read about Ruth since she was a woman in the Bible who had her very own book. I helped her find Ruth and she began reading it. Once she had read enough, she used her bookmark to save her place for the next time. It brings me such joy to see my daughter discovering the Bible on her own at age 6. That's exactly what I had hoped "The Discoverer's Bible" would accomplish!

This Bible uses simpler language but is a great first verse-by-verse Bible. The illustrations are also beautiful. Our daughter, who loves to read, has this Bible next to her bed and is reading voraciously. She has had story Bibles in the past, but she is definitely enjoying reading her Bible more now than she ever has. She is able to understand it on her own, and we are able to read from our Bibles together. What a beautiful gift to see the Word unlocked for her in this way.

I am a Seminary student and homeschool mom. I received this Bible with a homeschool curriculum I no longer use. The NIV's Discover's Bible and Adventure Bible have taken a serious liberty with the text. In the children's NIV Isaiah 14:13 states, "You said in your heart, 'I will go up to heaven. I'll raise my throne above the stars of God. I'll sit as king on the mountain where the ***gods*** meet. I'll set up my throne on the highest slopes of the sacred mountain." This is not a debate about which translation is the best. This is a review for Bibles that say there are other gods. My first thought was that Satan's theology is messed up, it isn't out of character for him to say gods. But gods is an entirely different meaning than, assemby and congregations. So I first checked the KJV, it is a reliable translation,and it says congregation.

ESV Children's Bible says, "You said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north."

KJV says,"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exhalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:"

NASB says, "But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.'

NIV agrees with ESV, KJV, and NASB. The problem is only in the Children's NIV Bibles. I have contacted the publisher and made them aware. They have replied saying they will respond again after research is done by someone who is on leave. As a Christian parent, we introduce the Bible as God's word, infallible and inerrant. This publishing error is not acceptable, please let the publisher know.

The font size of this Bible is great for young readers. I like that the language is toned down just a little for little kids, yet is still very similar to the NIV translation.

My 5 year old has enjoyed reading the Discovers' Bible and loves looking at the pictures. He has enjoyed having his own copy of God's Word.

I like that the font is big enough for him to read easily. The Discovers' Bible is large enough that young readers can easily make out the words without feeling overwhelmed about the amount of words on one page. I also like that that it is a hardcover Bible that has held up well to a 4 (now 5) year old lugging it around the house every day. Defiantly a great first real Bible for new readers of any age!

This Bible was recommended by our homeschool curriculum to purchase for our 2nd graders. Although we purchase it at that time, it isn't until they are later in their 2nd grade year & through the 3rd & 4th grade years that it is so beneficial (for the reading level). I so appreciate the larger print & the slight modification of words to make it easier for the kids to understand. We just bought our 4th one (for the youngest child) and highly recommend it!

I love this bible !! It is perfect for my 8 year old to read -and my 6 year old to follow along with too. Definately reccomend this bible for young readers. The art is beautiful.

I selected this bible as a 1st communion gift. Rather than just stories, it contains actual scripture, colorful pictures and is written at a level for young readers. My only complaint is that I didn't realize it would ship from the UK and arrived three weeks later! Be sure to note whether or not the item is actually purchased from Amazon.com!

This bible is great! It isn't confusing or hard to read. I enjoy reading certain passages myself, as they simplify and put it in plain language. Bought for an eleven year old boy who loves to read adventure stories. He frequently picks it up, reads, and comes to us to discuss what he's read. Love that!

Great product, I bought these as a graduation gift for out pre-k who were moving up into the elementary class.
