5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Bible for children, February 2, 2006

Zondervan has always been known for its excellent products and this is no exception. What a wonderful Bible for kids ages 5-12, and even for adults! Written at a third garde reading level, this Bible is easy to understand and I enjoyed reading the answers to questions that kids (and yes, even adults) ask about God, heaven, and the world around them. The use of blue and red for the print is eye catching and easy on the eyes (and yes, much less boring too) The illustrations are cute and made me smile often. A dictionary and topical index is included. Parents and grandparents, no need to hesitate on the purchase of this particular Bible. Much time and effort has been expended to make it as easy to understand while being true to the original text as possible. I even recommend this to adults who find themselves confused by other versions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bible for Young Readers, December 5, 2008

This review is from: NIrV Kids' Quest Study Bible: Real Questions, Real Answers (New International Readers Version) (Hardcover)
We have purchased this Bible for each of our kids when they reached an age when they could read well. We just gave the latest copy to our daughter in kindergarten as a reward when she reached a reading goal in school.

We love this Bible for the following reasons:
1. The NIrV is a great translation for our kids because it is accurate, readable (3rd grade reading level) and it is quite similar to the NIV - which is the version my wife and I use and the one our pastor preaches from
2. It is a real study Bible -- not a kid's abridged story Bible. Each book includes a brief introduction (who wrote the book, why was it written, what happens, etc.) and contains the full text of the Bible.
3. The text is easy to read and the look is inviting and interesting so that our kids read and look through it on their own (text is blue and red).
4. It includes questions and Biblical answers to a wide range of questions kids ask. For example, "What is a parable?" and "What is so bad about cheating in sports?"
5. It is a Bible that our kids will continue to grow with (at least, until teenagers, probably).
6. It is good for both boys and girls. We have found that a Bible cover is helpful to add that personal touch (e.g. camouflage for our son and pink for our daughter).

In summary, we love this Bible and think it is a great Bible to help your kids gain a passion for studying God's Word...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best children's Bible we've owned, December 5, 2010
This review is from: NIrV Kids' Quest Study Bible: Real Questions, Real Answers (New International Readers Version) (Hardcover)
We bought this Bible for our son two years ago, when he was 7 years old. He loves it! The text is very readable and understandable, the layout on the page is very easy on the eyes, and he especially loves the insets with questions and Biblical answers. I've found them to be very solid, and enjoy reading and discussing them with him. We bought a different Bible for our older son, who was 10 at the time, and find that he much prefers this Bible to his own. In church, they'll both start out with their Bibles open on their laps, but in no time at all, our older son is leaning over, reading over his brother's shoulder.

My only gripe with it is that both the front and back cover tore off, but that is probably due more to the heavy use it got than any defect in the manufacture. I'd definitely recommend a Bible cover to help prolong the life of the book. He is gradually losing the book of Revelation.

Probably the best testimony I can give is the fact that we are buying a new copy of the same Bible for him as a replacement. We couldn't be more satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Bible, November 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I think this is a good Bible both for kids and adult like me.
The quest(ions) that the kids might ask are presented near the answered scripture(s).
And there are hundreds of them.
I could definitely learn from these alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars My high functioning autistic son loves it!, February 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NIrV Kids' Quest Study Bible: Real Questions, Real Answers (New International Readers Version) (Hardcover)
My son is just old enough to start reading a "real" bible, and I had several high quality products to pick from in this "NIrV" version. So, I went with the one that has the cool looking cartoons and says that it answers questions (which my son can't stop coming up with).

Well, my son loves it and just announced that he is going to read through all the questions at the rate of 12 a day. He is reading this on his own. What a victory to help secure the spiritual future of a young person.

I love this bible. I bought several of them for the children in my youth group. The words are easy to understand, unlike some KJV or NKJV bibles and the Q & A sections and stories are good areas for discussion of issues that children commonly face in today's culture.

Five years ago I bought one (an earlier edition) for my son, and recently, I bought this edition for my younger daughter who's in Kindergarten, as a reward for her milestone in reading. My son who's had it for 5 years has been reading it EVERYDAY. He fell in love with it from day one. He is almost 10 years old now, and although he has already graduated into NIV, he still enjoys reading the kid-friendly little comics and "commentaries" throughout the bible. The NIrV is easy to read and also easy to understand when being read to. I like it because it is not a book of bible stories -- it follows the exact arrangement of the "grown-up" bible, with all the OT and NT books. To me, the paraphrasing is reasonably careful and accurate verse-for-verse. At the beginning of each book, it gives a brief introduction about the author, background, main characters, purpose and so on, to guide the young reader. My son tells me that the text in this edition is identical to that of his edition, but the pictures have changed, and the letters have changed from plain black to red and blue.

My daughter, who has just begun to read, feels proud to have the same bible as her brother's. Now their favorite past-time is to open their bibles to compare and talk about the contents together. It costs a bit more because of the hard cover, but with the heavy daily use, I'd say it is worth the investment.

I love this book. I bought this for both my sons. My older son gets a kick out of the funny pictures and jokes in it. It really helps him to enjoy his Bible and learn more. I really hate this cover with the big red question mark on it. Who thought to put a huge question mark on the cover of a Bible? It's gaudy and it gives the wrong impression of the Bible. The Bible has answers. I liked the old cover with the kid hang-gliding better.
