5.0 out of 5 stars Works well for me
Perhaps the previous reviewer got a bad batch; my set has no defect. It works nicely for me, though I wish that the background music was just a bit softer.

3.0 out of 5 stars NKJV CD Set
The sound, quality and voice are exellent. The quality of the cd's is sub-standard. You can see the flaws in each disk. One even appears to have sand stuck under the plastic. Every cd has errors and skips or gets stuck. I would not recommend buying this set online unless you like going through the hassle of mailing it back and waiting for a return.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, January 23, 2006

This review is from: NKJV Audio Bible-58 CD Set (Audio CD)
I am a senior and saved in order to buy this bible on cd. At first, I was very happy, as the content and narrator voice is excellent. Then, I began to notice the cds were skipping, then it became worse......like an old broken record, then cd # 35 has nothing at all on it. That's when I stopped listening and started the process of requesting a replacement or refund. This is all such a hassle.

The combination of alternating voices for different characters and background music helps to make this audio Bible a good listen for anyone. I found that going through the books on audio does a lot to refresh my memory and helps motivate me to go look into some topics in more detail. I would recommend this bible for anyone as an aid to reading your normal devotions.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unimpressive, May 8, 2006

I found this unleasant to listen to; Johnston's narration is monotonous, boring and rushed, at a pace so fast that I could not absorb the narrative details while listening. Try Scourby's narration or Will Waggoner (from eBible); they are very pleasant, well paced and well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grows on you, great dramatization, and entertaining, February 10, 2008
This review is from: NKJV Audio Bible-58 CD Set (Audio CD)
As of 2-10-08, I have read all the reviews for this product and am dissappointed at some of the low scores. I bought this a couple of years ago brand new from Amazon.com. This truly is a great dramatized version, and with many of the CDs, is addicting to listen to. Great for long commutes when I want to make the most of my time and study the Bible. I have learned the Bible just by listening to the CDs. The characters are funny to listen to and the actors are very good and very worth making that known for this product.

This specific product takes a little getting used to if you're not used to the narration by Stephen Johnston. It was different at first, but once I got used to it, it is good. I admit, it is narrated a tad too fast. And it isn't perfect all around with every single thing that is spoken, tones of voices and acting, but overall, it is a great product, and the dramatization/actors are very, very good. Definetely worth considering!

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK - GREAT READ - GREAT LISTENING, November 4, 2006

This review is from: NKJV Audio Bible-58 CD Set (Audio CD)
I'M NOT A GREAT READER AND MY CONCENTRATION LEVELS AIN'T THE BEST, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD BY THE BIBLE ON CD. THE THOUGHT OF SOMEONE READING TO ME WAS NOT REALLY APPEALING BUT I THOUGHT I'D GIVE IT A TRY. WELL... I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO OVERJOYED TO HAVE SOMEONE READ TO MEAN AS THIS DRAMATISED VERSION IS BRILLIANT BECAUSE OF THE READER, THE OTHER VOICES AND THE DRAMATIC MUSIC. THIS IS A MUST, ALTHOUGH IT'S ONLY FAILING IS HAVING TO FILL IN THE EVERYTHING ON THE COMPUTER, AS THIS VERSION DOES NOT SEEM TO REGISTERED ANYWHERE THAT IT CAN BE AUTOMATICALLY READ. THE SELLER WAS GOOD, THE TRASACTION WAS GOOD, THE PRODUCT IS BRILLIANT AND IT ARRIVED WITHIN A WEEK.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this under any circumstances, August 28, 2008
I listened to the end of Job and the beginning of Ecclesiastes, and that's all I could stand. It sounds exactly like the Simpsons' pompous newscaster, Kent Brockman, is the one reading it, and he's definitely in a big hurry to get through it all. The words in the sentences are not intoned with any indication that the reader has the slightest understanding of what he's saying. The background music is also just like the idiotic trumpet fanfare that starts every episode of the Simpsons, it signifies fake "glory". The KJV is the English language at its most resonant and majestic, mysterious and beautiful. This is pure canned corn, perfect maybe for America's largely illiterate evangelicals, but then they don't read the King James Version of the Bible do they? ('Too many big words!'). I can't believe someone spent all the time it must have taken to record this nonsense. I couldn't stand more than about 2 or 3 minutes of it. Do not waste your money on it. One little example - at the beginning of Ecclesiates, on the line "Vanity of vanities, thus sayeth the preacher...", you can clearly hear that the narrator is smiling, no doubt at the foolishness of the sentiment expressed; he sounds like he's on the verge of laughing. Maybe he's trying to indicate that the author of the book was just kidding. I just don't understand how anybody could believe they could actually sell this to anybody. Not to me, anyway.
