it works,

First of all another reviewer mentioned the workmanship was subpar. He must have got a lemon. Mine is splendid. It is a joy to hold as the leather melts into your hands. The gold edging gives it that touch of elegance. The print is large enough to be comfortably readable. The textual variants are documented at the bottom of the page which are great. The size is such that you can take it anywhere and read discreetly. Sometimes you just want to read unencumbered by notes and commentary; this Bible fits that bill.

love these two,

I own two premium pocket bibles. One is this Nelson Signature Series and the other is the Cambridge Goatskin leather bible. I've read some bad review on these two and they are simply NOT true at all. The Nelson I've had for years and it's taken fairly heavy use and even some abuse at the hands of toddlers. Absolutely no problems. It's as strong and as good looking now as when it was new. Both these bibles are SMYTH SEWN. I have the signature in hand now and I'm looking at the threads running through the pages. I can't believe someone has the nerve to actually lie about a bible! I also own a Thompson Chain Reference Bible that has had major use and abuse for close to 20 years now and the binding is still holding together even though the crummy bonded leather has fallen apart. I have seen complaints on the type size. The Nelson is 7.5 and the Cambridge is 6.75. The resulting bible size difference is significant. The Cambridge is small enough to fit in my pocket where the signature fits into my wifes purse easily. If you need large print then a pocket bible is not for you so you shouldn't get one then trash the reviews because you can't see it. It's inherent in the whole pocket bible thing. Little. The red lettering is red in the Nelson and more maroon in the Cambridge. The maroon is easier to see but they're neither one hard to see. I also saw a complaint about paper quality. That's really insane. Only that nutty old librarian that can tell you where a book was printed by the smell could really tell a difference. What I'm saying is that if you want a pocket bible then these two are most assuredly the choices for you. Do you prefer a bit bigger and super soft tan calfskin leather or the classic black goatskin that'll fit in your pocket? Ignore the Pitt Minion gripes too. I mean who notices the silly reference boxes anyways. Down the side on the bottom or down the middle. Who cares?! They're virtually useless in any of these bibles anyways. Buy a cheap novice reference book and you'll be surprised with the amount of stuff not in the bible reference section. Even the illustrious Thompson Chain Reference is pitifully lacking. BUY ONE OF THESE STUFF IT IN YOUR POCKET OR PURSE AND READ IT EVERY CHANCE YOU GET. REMEMBE PSALMS 1:2, "IN HIS LAW HE MEDITATES DAY AND NIGHT." THAT'S THE POINT!! NOT IF MY WEE BIBLE HAS GLUE IN THE BINDING. OH FORBID I MIGHT READ THE THING THEN!! GOD BLESS EVERY ONE OF YOU THAT WOULD EVEN LOOK FOR A BIBLE!! THE WORLD NEEDS A LOT MORE OF YOU FOLKS!

I think this is a very nice pocket bible. If it had cross references and a concordance like their cheaper bonded leather w/snap, it would be great. If those two things aren't important to you then this is the one for you.
The quality is top notch. I believe this is my fifth Signature Series bible, only one of them was so so, it is the KJV Reference Edition. The only part I didn't like was the paper, it seemed like a lower grade. Outside of that all of them are without question the best I can find.

I just recieved my nkjv companion bible..There is nothing signature about it..The leather is great but thats it. The paper is not the best quality and it's Glued!! I was mislead big time about this bible! Not to mention i wanted it black not tan..they should have said it only comes in tan and be honest about it being heavily glued..I don't see what all the fuss is about..It doesn't lay flat when opened either..Like I said the leather is the best feature but far from being a signature series..I don't think i'll be keeping this..I should have ordered the cambridge bible i intended on buying!!

This bible goes with me everywhere I go. I have had more comments on this bible than I do on my 1976 CJ7 in mint condition. Perfect size and the cover is wonderful. Only complaint the gold comes off if it gets wet, just something to watch.

It seems that this particular edition of the Nelson Signature series has changed since it was first introduced. It is actually hard for me to tell if the binding of this Bible is sewn or glued. It certainly does not feel like the other premium bibles (including earlier Nelson Signature bibles) that I own. Perhaps this Bible is just taking longer to break in than some of my other premium Nelson or Crossway ESV bibles.
The cover itself is soft and nice quality. I should age well with normal use. Text size is fine. It is also nice to have 2 ribbon markers. Overall, it seems that the quality of these bibles in their production has dwindled in the past few years.

Just got my tan S.S. Pocket Companion Bible. Very nice. The leather is very supple and I love the natural tan color. The binding is quite stiff (sturdy?) and will take some breaking in before it will lay flat open. My only wish is that Nelson would publish a S.S. reference Bible. I like the extra translation notes and cross references that are included in their NKJV center-column reference Bibles (they use these also in some of the study Bibles like the MacArthur Study Bible).
