This is the loveliest Bible I have ever seen. The cover is the finest, softest leather, with a flexibility that lets it mold into one's hand; it is a tactile delight. The size is ideal, making it not too heavy for long periods of reading, and also for taking to church.
The gold-edged pages are of an excellent paper quality, with print that is a comfortable font size for the eyes. Some of the other features include:
Several pages for family information, like marriages, etc., and for family trees.
9 maps.
A nice concordance.
The words of Jesus are in red.
It does not however, have a center reference column.

A short history of the KJV: In 1604, the Bibles in use in England were The Geneva Bible, The Great Bible, and The Bishop's Bible, and the Puritans requested of King James I a new translation. He commisioned 47 translators who started in 1607, and the first version was released in 1611, with many revisions since. The version we see today is similar to the 1769 edition.
The language is exquisite, and everyone should have a copy of the KJV and read it at least once in their lifetime; however, for the most clarity and understanding in one's daily reading, many are recommending a newer translation; my personal preference is for both the New King James Version, and the Amplified Bible. The Nelson's Signature Series Bible that I am saving up for is their NKJV edition, which I can't resist looking at and touching every time I go to my local Christian bookstore; it is truly a dream Bible.

Psalm 39:4
KJV: "Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am".
NKJV: "Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am".
Amplified Bible: "Lord, make me to know my end and (to appreciate) the measure of my days-what it is; let me know and realize how frail I am (how transient is my stay here).

I am sorry to have to say anything negative about this Bible. First off let me say, the Tan Calfskin (and black one as well) cover is gorgeous.
The problem is, everything else is poor quality. I had to return mine for a defective page inside of it. As it turns out, I understand that perhaps the whole run of new releases of this bible are defective. They have two-tone red and black calfskin covers, and the black calfskin as well. The pages on the inside are printed on the same paper as the $20.00 Bible! Also, the red lettering is badly mis-type set, almost double spaced. Some verses have no spacing at all, and overlap the preceding verses.
There are also many blotches on the pages. (And I saw the same thing in DOZENS of these Bibles!)
So, beware of this new release. (978-07180-2586-1).

Beautiful!! Simply beautiful:) I will not waste your time with previously stated details.......other reviewers have covered these issues. I say, " if you need to justify the $40 extra dollars"..............go to any major bookstore, Christian or otherwise and casually p/u a standard "leather bound" Nelson Bible....notice how the leather trim is covered by the book's cover/back flap pages instead of the leather trim going OVER the flaps themselves? Looks a little hurried to me. SLAP the glue on...we have to go go go...get this one off the press, etc.... Oh and don't mess around with that "special high quality Bible paper"....no no......this ho-hummmmm not-so-fine paper will do just fine. Aaarrrrrrrgh. Penny wise, pound foolish. The signature Bible takes the extra steps to make this particular BIBLE elegant and exceptional. My copy melts into my hands allowing me to simply focus on the GOOD NEWS....no distractions. I open the book and read b/c my subconscious isn't thinking about rough leather/hardcovers, hand fatigue or even if the pages will tear. Nope. Just the right size for just about anywhere I could possible want to keep it:) THIS is MOM's Bible!! Dad, get your own:)

This product is definitely not what was advertised. The bible was supposed to be in Calfskin, it turns out it was only in bonded leather. This is the first Bible that I have ordered from Amazon which was way below par.
