5.0 out of 5 stars The Tool Man Delivers!
One word that describes this book best? Deep. Tim Allen talks about the meaning of life and if we're really here or not (So, now do you understand the title?). "I'm Not Really Here" isn't as funny as his first book, but it's a side of the tool man that you definitely don't see while watching "Home Improvement." Buy this book today!

1.0 out of 5 stars What Happened?
I loved his first book. It was a riot. This one just didn't have very much. There were a couple funny parts. I guess I should have given this book a 2 but I was spoiled by how hilarious the first one was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite a pleasant surprise, June 14, 2002

After reading this book, I have a new and better view of Tim Allen. This review is also to counter the mindless and sometimes rediculous negative reviews by some Amazon.com contributors. Tim's first book was much more comedy oriented. If this had been his first book, the masses would not have believed it was written by Tim Allen, the grunting, knuckle-dragging man-nut from television comedy. Mr Allen presents us with a deep, thought provoking and emotional (yes, there WAS some real emotion here) journey with a douse of fiction which creates an interesting and truly good read. I was thoroughly entranced with this book, and it was not difficult to understand. It did not require much thought or concentration to get in to, yet also did not require that you throw logic out the window to enjoy. Kudos to Mr. Allen for creating a beautiful piece of literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tim Allen has my gratitude for a life changing book, May 7, 2001

I have read all of these reviews, and am very surprised by some of them. This book is a personal journey for Tim Allen. One he invited us to come along for. No, it is not the intense humor of his first book, and no it is not a Quantum Physics text book. Nor do I think it was meant to rival anything by David Bohm. Actually he seems to be in awe of Mr. Bohm. This is a deep book which will speak to those open to it. It is better off left alone by those who cannot grasp it, or better yet, are not ready to, as well as those who have forgotten their path and feel that they are too far beyond it. What I found in this book was an intelligent questioning person who has pushed himself to grow immensely. I do not think Mr. Allen meant to rival great minds in Quantum Physics, merely to show us what can happen to us if we explore something outside our everyday humdrum existence as he has. If you are looking for a repeat of his first book, open yourself and try something new. If you are into Quantum Physics, open it and remember your roots, and don't take yourself so seriously, (another message in this book). Open your mind and you will love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Way To Spend The Weekend!, January 2, 2001
By
This review is from: I'M NOT REALLY HERE (Mass Market Paperback)
My wife placed this book on the kitchen table and asked me if i'd like to read it. I said sure! Tim Allen is such a talent and after reading this book I find he is nice person too. He reflects on his personal life and comments on midlife crisis, science, religion, relationships & society all with humor and insight. It was easy to relate to most of this book. Its great to see all his success has not gone to his head, and that he has discovered what I already know, one can choose to be happy and content with what God has blessed you with, or you can complain and be miserable. Its your choice, your consequence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking, funny, and rather strange, February 25, 2001
This review is from: I'M NOT REALLY HERE (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed this book a lot. Tim Allen pulled off a difficult trick: writing a compelling narrative about real life that includes deep discussions about both religion and quantum mechanics. It's a good reminder that actors are much more than the roles they play. And it's a funny book, although it doesn't quite "induce laughter on every page." It does, however, "surprise and challenge, [and] make you wonder and think" so all in all the blurb writers did a decent job. Above all, it passes the most important test of a good book: reading it made me feel better about life.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most interesting books that digs into life., November 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: I'm Not Really Here (Hardcover)
This book caught me from the intro and it held me to the end. As he(tim allen) goes through everyday searching for a hood ornament and finding the meaning of life he is distracted by people relating to him from his dream(the intro)and then the strange man from the computer that keps mailing him telling him he has the answers. This book will keep you going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quantum Mechanics and Tim Allen, who could ask for more?, June 17, 2004

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: I'M NOT REALLY HERE (Mass Market Paperback)
My father believes that this book must be ghost-written, but I think that Tim Allen's actually a pretty smart guy and he probably knows Quantum at the level that he's writing about it. This was really my first intro to QM and it's the most entertaining book on the subject I've ever read. Also, the monotony is constantly broken by Tim's search for a car ornament and descriptions of his family. It's a fun read and a lot more "intelligent" than Don't Stand Too Close to a Nake Man.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Deep Book by a Very Deep Man, January 10, 2004
By
Mike (Ottawa, Ontario) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I'm Not Really Here (Hardcover)
This book is not as humourous as his first book, Don't Stand to Close to a Naked Man, but it shows a new side of the toolman. A side that is not shown in his show, any of his stand up comedy or in his first book. To show this side of himself, Tim Allen had to take a large step, and in doing so, he shows that he is more than a man's man. He shows that he's also a thinking man, and his world does not completely revolve around tools and cars, though they are a large part of his life. This book still has its humourous points, but has a much more serious tone overall. It is much more philosophical and deals with Quantum Mechanics, and it brings up some very large questions that we rarely deal with on a day to day basis. This book will not only make you laugh, it will also make you think.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sublime Combination of Humor and Metaphysics, September 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: I'm Not Really Here (Hardcover)
I didn't think, as one wouldn't, that a combination of humor and spirituality could be achieved. We are all used to the (excellent) publications of Chopra and Gawain, which wax lyrical on the topics of joy, harmony, peace and being at one with the world..... but of course, only the most gorgeous man on the planet (in my humble opinion), can truly capture the essence of joy..... well done, Tim, you are truly a work of the Divine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acertained my conviction that things aren't what they seem, June 15, 1999
By
Martin Malo (Montreal, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I'M NOT REALLY HERE (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is NOT for those looking for a sequel to Tim's popular first one. This one's on the deep side. Tim Allen made a great effort to make his incredible experiences be published and known to the public. With a little bit of humor, obviously.

The book convinced me that reality is more that what our 5 senses tell us. It opened me up on the subject of quantum reality. Even famous phycisists are now talking like eastern mystics.

"I'm not really here" doesn't answer life's questions but is a REALLY GOOD WAKE UP CALL. It gives the drive to make you go and look for your own answers.
