NOVA Season 1

Editorial Reviews

Alaska’s Mount McKinley, commonly referred to as Denali, is the highest and coldest peak in North America, and one of the deadliest mountains on earth. Each year more than 1,000 people attempt to summit it; many never to return alive. While some climbers die in accidents—sliding off of icy cliffs, crushing bones against rocks, falling into hidden crevices, or losing their way and succumbing to the cold—others, often in top physical condition, die from a strange disease that strikes at extreme altitudes. Now, as a new season dawns on the mountain, a team of doctors, rescuers, world-class mountaineers, military special forces and an astronaut, return to save lives, and using themselves as subjects, decipher the deaths on Denali.

5.0 out of 5 stars An engaging DVD documentary of the NOVA team's incredible climb in Delani National Park in Alaska of towering Mt. McKinley, June 7, 2006
This review is from: NOVA: Deadly Ascent (DVD)
Also available in a VHS video cassette format, Deadly Ascent is an engaging DVD documentary of the NOVA team's incredible climb in Delani National Park in Alaska of towering Mt. McKinley. Vividly filmed and expertly edited, Deadly Ascent carries its viewers through the peril fraught exploration seeking to solve the mystery of high-altitude deaths with cutting-edge scientific experiments, daring rescues, emergency medical evacuations, and so much more. Enhanced with down-loadable materials for educators, closed captions, video descriptions for the visually impaired, access to the NOVA website, and scene selection, Deadly Ascent (58 minutes, full color, letterboxed) is very strongly recommended for all viewers intrigued with mountain climbing and exploration in general, and assaulting Mt. McKinley in particular.

This is a good movie about Mt. Denali in Alaska. A general reference not a fully loaded detailed film about the mountain. Shows a general example what it is like to climb there.

I am from Alaska...and have scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro (East Africa)...and Denali. This film is so on...if you have never climbed to America's highest peak...and would like to--but cannot for whatever reason...this is as good as it gets!!!!
