NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, offers thousands of limited edition and one-of-a-kind gifts, jewelry, and home decor treasures handmade by master artists and artisans throughout the world. This striking mask showcases Nyoman Naranata's carving excellence. The mask portrays the handsome visage of a Balinese man; it is carved with vivid expression. He wears an elaborate floral headdress that is detailed to exquisite perfection. Nyoman Naranata hand-carves the mask from local hibiscus wood; its intriguing grain adds to the ephemeral allure of this piece. Please note the wood's grain may vary. Artisan Info: "I am Balinese born and was named Nyoman Naranata by my parents in the traditional baby ceremony in 1970. When I was just an elementary student, the art of woodcarving was imprinted on my everyday life. Handicrafts are becoming the main wage earner in my village. As times passes and I get older, my experiences have led me to concentrate on carved masks. I learned to design from my father, this craft which is taught and learned from generation to generation. "The material I commonly used is hibiscus wood. It has good characteristics and it isn't too heavy. I look forward to having cooperation and partnership with Novica, which helps artists in marketing around the globe."
