Product Description

Borage Oil 240mg by Now Foods 120 Softgel Borage Oil is a nutritional oil containing over 80 polyunsaturated fats. Linoleic acid and Gamma Linoleic acid (GLA) are enhanced essential fatty acids. Although the body can manufacture GLA from dietary linoleic acid it can be more efficiently utilized for body functions when supplied directly by dietary source. Borage Oil is a more concentrated source of GLA than Evening Primrose Oil (EPO). One Borage Oil capsule is equilvalent to about 5 standard EPO capsules in GLA content.

Borage is a plant. Its flowers and leaves, as well as the oil from its seeds are used as medicine.

Borage seed oil is used for skin disorders including eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, and neurodermatitis. It is also used for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), stress, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), diabetes, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), alcoholism, pain and swelling (inflammation), and for preventing heart disease and stroke.

Borage flower and leaves are used for fever, cough, and depression.

Borage is also used for a hormone problem called adrenal insufficiency, for "blood purification," to increase urine flow, to prevent inflammation of the lungs, as a sedative, and to promote sweating. Borage is also used to increase breast milk production and to treat bronchitis and colds.

Borage is applied to the skin for infantile seborrheic dermatitis and is also used in a dressing to soften the skin.

In foods, borage is eaten in salads and soups.

In manufacturing, borage is used in skin care products.

How does it work?
Borage seed oil contains a fatty acid called gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). GLA seems to have anti-inflammatory effects. Borage flower might have an antioxidant effect.

For those who have used Vit. E oil on their skin, just let me say that Borage Oil works much better and isn't sticky. I just make a small hole in the capsule and there is enough oil for 3 or 4 applications. I either mix it with my moisturizer or put the oil on first then the moisturizer. I am 77 years old and my skin looks really good. Yep, I have some sags but hardly any wrinkles even under my eyes. I stopped taking it orally but am starting back as I'm experiencing some aches and pains in my hips and legs that I never had before. I'm wondering if it was the Borage Oil that was helping. I'm going to try 2 capsules a day and see if it helps. I've never used anything but the NOW brand. I've seen the liquid advertised but would have to keep it refrigerated and I think it stays fresher in the capsules.

I buy all of my supplements based on Consumer Lab reviews. It illustrates the brands that the amount of ingredients that are advertised and also checks the quality of the ingredients in general.

Anyways, I bought this as part of a routine that I've put together to reduce my menstrual pain each month. I have Endometriosis and finding natural ways to combat pain has been a journey. I heard that Borage Oil is great for it and along with my other supplements, I have noticed a big difference in my pain level. It also helps with the flow itself.

I take 1 pill everyday and the week before my period, I take 2 pills in the morning and 2 in the evening. I would definitely recommend this for women who need some help with menstrual relief.

On the plus side, NOW's Borage Oil is high in GLA, and is compliant with the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines. However, the product label does not indicate whether Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), which are common in Borage flowers, seeds, and leaves, have been removed. Since any producer of Borage Oil pills which was able to remove PAs would certainly indicate this on their label if they had done so (a significant benefit and differentiator to promote versus their competitors who have not removed PAs), it is very likely NOW has not removed the PAs. Why you should care: PAs can cause significant damage to the liver and even cancer, in high doses.

I checked at least 10 manufacturers of Borage Oil pills, and none of them indicated that the product was PA-free. Consequently, I'm reducing my Borage Oil significantly, and instead taking Evening Primrose Oil.

Love Borage Oil. Did some research online about the benefits Borage Oil has for your skin. I've struggled with acne most of my life and at 25 I'm looking for a more holistic solution rather than the harsh creams, chemicals, washes that dermatologists have burdened me with. Borage Oil has most definitely made a difference in my skin and overall mood. So happy with this product! Give it a try!
