Here is a side-by-side comparison of nine Ubiquinone CoQ10 supplements: Nutrigold CoQ10, Doctor's Best High Absorption CoQ10, Now Foods CoQ10, Jarrow Formulas Q-Absorb Co-Q10, Qunol Ultra CoQ10, Nature Made Ubiquinone CoQ10, Nature's Way CoQ10, TruNature Coenzyme CoQ10, and Kirkland CoQ10. All of these are Ubiquinone, not Ubiquinol, products.

So, what is Ubiquinone, how does it differ from Ubiquinol, and how are they related to CoQ10?

CoQ10 is a nutrient that is said to have profound effects on our levels of energy, stamina, organ health, and immune system functionality. CoQ10 comes in two forms: Ubiquinone and Ubiquinol. Ubiquinone (also known as Ubidecarenon) is more common and widely known because it is the form most commonly sold commercially. Ubiquinone is the completely oxidized form of CoQ10. When taken, this supplement is actually metabolized within our bodies where it becomes Ubiquinol. Regular unsolubilized Ubiquinone does not dissolve in water and only poorly dissolves in fat. Therefore, regular unsolubilized Ubiquinone has poor absorption.

Ubiquinol is the strong, antioxidant form of CoQ10 which neutralizes free radicals and decreases cellular damage. Ubiquinone does not have this antioxidant effect. Ubiquinol supplements are in a form that has already been reduced to being a strong antioxidant. Ubiquinol is both water and fat soluble, so it provides superior absorption compared to regular unsolubilized Ubiquinone. When taken directly in this format it works more quickly and can be delivered in lower concentrations without worry that it is not being metabolized.

The problem arises with aging in many people.

I have been using NOW brand supplements for some time because of the high quality and purity of their products.
I just broke my right calcaneus (heel bone) and am taking this product (as well as softgel calcium pills) to make sure my body gets everything it needs to heal.
Thanks NOW Foods for making such great supplements at affordable prices!
PS: I do not work for NOW Foods or Amazon. I'm just a very satisfied long term customer. :-)

I have used CoQ10 for years. When I was having some extensive dental work done, someone recommended it to me. During the weeks of procedures, the dentist remarked on how well I was healing. I ran out at one point and that week when I went to the dentist, he said he was surprised that I healed more slowly that week than any other. I immediately went out and another bottle. Next week, the dentist said that I was right back on schedule. I swear by this stuff.

I have use many different CoQ10 products over the years, and don't mind trying different brands. But I seem to be getting tinnitus from this product. I typically take 300 mg a day, and on heavy training days I will push it to 5oo mg. But with this, anything over 100 seems to cause symptoms. Maybe that is something good somewhere, but to me I probably won't buy it again through Now...

We've been taking Coq10 for some time and it gets expensive for two of us. This was a reasonable price and we will order again.

The product description contains the important info:

Coenzyme Q10 is a vitamin-like compound also called ubiquinone.

The controversy is over whether ubiquinone, which is cheaper, is as effective as ubiquinol. So if those who say the latter is the preferred source, this product is not what you are looking for.
