Product Description

Size: 1

Extracts of Eucalyptus have been an integral part of folk therapy for centuries, and it is well documented in numerous early historical texts. NOW® Eucalyptus Oil is steam distilled from Eucalyptus trees and is 100% pure. Centuries ago, the eucalyptus tree was thought to cleanse the environment, so the frail and sickly would choose to live in areas where these fragrant trees grew, hoping for recovery from their ailments. While just living under the trees might not be the cure people hoped for, the tree does indeed offer healing. The Australian Aborigines applied crushed eucalyptus leaves to wounds to promote healing. They also used eucalyptus leaves to fight infection and relieve muscular pain. In India, eucalyptus is used to cool fever and fight contagious diseases. Even Western surgeons recognized the benefits of eucalyptus, and have used a eucalyptus solution to wash out operation cavities. Today, eucalyptus is used in many different types of pharmaceutical products, from vapor rubs to cold remedies. Even veterinarians and dentists use eucalyptus in their practices. Its sweet, menthol, woody scent coupled with its proven healing abilities makes it a favorite essential oil in aromatherapy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best at the best price!, October 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you like eucalyptus oil this is one of the best. I have a little gym in my garage and I like spraying it in there when I workout. Or if I go to a spa in my area I like spraying in the sauna and steam room. I've been buying the NOW brand for years. Pure oil. And buying it through Amazon was the best price I've found on my web search.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eucalyptus Oil, May 4, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Wonderful essential oil - great product! Clean, pure and unadulterated with other oils or additives. Great for use for upper respiratory congestion or sinus infections. Anecdotally, I have successfully treated myself and my four children for stubborn sinus infections that have re-occurred, despite antibiotics, by swabbing the inside of the nostrils with a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of Eucalyptus oil twice/day. Also just breathing vapors helps. It can be diluted with a bland oil, such as almond or olive oil for sensitive skin. Should be used with caution, however, in asthmatics. Can be added to distilled water in a spray bottle and sprayed throughout house during "cold season".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value for Oft-Used Oil, February 9, 2011
By

I'm a fan of NOW Foods essential oils in general. I think they tend to be a fair price for a good, reliable quality product. Over the years, I've had only one "suspect" oil from NOW, and was able to get a quick, satisfactory solution to my problem.

Eucalyptus oil is undoubtedly one of the essential oils I use the most, particularly in the winter to help combat colds and congestion. The large, 16 oz container of oil doesn't have a dropper included, which makes sense to me because essential oils degrade plastic (quite rapidly, too!). It takes me a looong time to get through the whole bottle, and I've no doubt that if I kept a dropper lid on the bottle, it'd be rendered useless before the oil was depleted. The mouth of the bottle is large enough for my 1/4 and 1/2 tsp measuring spoons to fit easily, so I use those to keep spills to a minimum when I'm mixing my little blends.

As far as usage goes, I'm leery of using most essential oils undiluted on my skin. Almond, avocado or any light vegetable oil works well to carry the eucalyptus for topical use. For aromatherapy I like a blend of about 4 parts Eucalyptus, 2-3 parts Lavender and 1 part Peppermint in a diffuser (or on the stove in a pot with water) during the winter to help with congestion. Some other reviewers have complained about the potency of the oil they received. I've been very satisfied with what I've received, but I suppose perception of scent is somewhat subjective. This oil doesn't have the knock-your-socks-off harshness associated with some eucalyptus-scented products (like Vapor-eze), but I find it more pleasant and no less effective for being less sharp.

Finally, if you're looking for ideas and instructions about using essential oils, rarely will you find details on the bottles of oil themselves. There are a lot of safety considerations (for example, asthmatics, pregnant women, and those with sensitive skin should use caution, depending on the oil) and lots of options for personalization in blends. I suggest Dodt's The Essential Oils Book: Creating Personal Blends for Mind & Body for a beginner's guide or The Aromatherapy Bible: The Definitive Guide to Using Essential Oils for more in-depth knowledge.
