Smells GREAT!,
By I see some reviewers complaining that it smells "watered-down", altered, or different from other oils they've bought. Be sure to check that you weren't buying a lavender hybrid in the past, known as Lavandula x hybrida, or LAVANDIN. It's commonly marketed and sold as real lavender, as companies can claim it is a "type of lavender". While it IS technically a TYPE of lavender, it differs from real lavender in a few ways. Most Notably: the scent of LAVANDIN is much stronger than that of REAL lavender. It's medicinal properties vary somewhat as well. REAL lavender can be used to help heal burns, while the hybrid can actually worsen them! LAVANDIN is used because it's easier to grow, and therefore cheaper. NOW Lavender oil is NOT the hybrid, but the real thing. I believe it is a superior product, but for those of you that prefer the stronger smell, look for Lavandula Hybrida, or "Lavandin" instead. If a bottle doesn't list which "breed" it is, you can't be certain which type it is. Maybe you could call whichever company that is selling it and find out? I would hope they would tell you, at least! NOW, however, actually lists the name on the bottle as being Lavandula Officinalis, or "official lavender". It can also be called Lavandula angustifolia, Lavandula vera, among other names. There are dozens of different species of Lavender, so you may come across other names as well. The way to tell the difference between real and hybrid is this: if there is an "x" between genus and species names (Lavandula x intermedia) then it's a hybrid, and should smell stronger. Hope that helps. :D

I put a few drops in my kids' bath each night and the whole house smells wonderful. Sometimes I also put a drop on a tissue and carry it in my pocket.Love the smell of lavender and love to have it with me.

lavender galore,
I use this product all the time and it is good for many uses, but was surprised that the larger bottle does not come with a dropper. This is why I didn't give it a five star. Pouring it directly from the bottle can cause a lot of waste from pouring too much and spilling it.

I am a licensed massage therapist who uses essential oils in my practice every day, as well as in home made lotions, ointments, and cosmetics. This is a good quality oil at an excellent price. Lavender is medicinal and psychologically beneficial to many people, and is even used on burn units in Europe. The disparity between "floral" Lavender and "woody" or, as one person described, "soapy" smelling Lavender is the strain of the plant and location grown. This Lavender is not "watered down". Those who know what they are talking about know that you can't water down an essential oil, it would render it useless, and besides, its illegal.

I'm very picky when it comes to lavender oil (and I've tried a lot of different types) and it seems like every lavender essential oil has a different aroma based on which type of lavender is used and whether the flowers or entire plant is used. This oil is very nice, but not my all-time favorite. But, I would rate it one of the best I've tried. I tend to like my lavender oils more astringent, where there is more of the leaf smell rather than the bud. I don't like lavender oils that are too dense and musky and have only the flower scent. The best thing about this oil is that is has a combination of both the flower and leaves. It's astringent enough that I like it, but it also has a bit of the warmer scent of the flower without being too musky. So, if you like a more balanced lavender oil, this is one of the best. I've been using it every day and am very happy with my purchase.

This oil smells great, feels great, and is in a GREAT big bottle! Best value on a wonderful all around essential oil. I use it on my skin, in the air, on our sheets at night, and in the dryer to make the linens and towels smell great!

Absolutely wonderful!,
By I use it mixed with a carrier oil for moisturizing after showers and baths. The aroma is fantanstic, it absorbs quickly and leaves a nice (but not too strong) scent that is relaxing. Because of the strength and purity of this oil I mix it 1/4 with my carrier oils. I did use a small amount of it undiluted when I first got it, and had no problem with the type of reaction that I have had from inferior and very crude oils in the past. |
