The only sense in which this dictionary is concise and compact is in the dictionary's functional role: entries converge on having one-word definitions. The dictionary could have been compact in a wider sense had the type been smaller (it is unnecessarily large) and had the size of the pages been more effectively used (there's lots of white space). If the dictionary had been more space-conscious (given that it isn't content-conscious), then at least it would have had the virtue of being easy to carry.
