Unhappy with Straw Design Change,
This review is from: NUBY BPA FREE 2 Handle 8oz. Cup / Flip-It Straw Top, Boy Colors (Baby Product)
I have two older cups that work pretty well. My exclusively breastfed baby couldn't figure out a bottle or other sippy cups, but she mastered this one pretty easily at around 7 months. I recently purchased a new cup at Babies-R-Us, and it has a new straw that is VERY difficult to suck through, even for me. The design of the new straw requires one to bite down on it in order to get much liquid through. Very frustrating for baby, and so basically unusable for us.

We tried several different styles of sippy cups but the rigid sippers were uncomfortable or the soft sippers weren't long enough for our baby so he refused them. These cups have a soft, flip down straw that was easy for our son to master. He loves the handles, and it was fun to watch him discover how to flip closed and open the straw. Plus, whenever it gets dropped, the straw never touches the floor because the bottle is able to keep the straw centered. Being able to close the straw is great for hygiene, too. We've had our three cups for over six months and use one for water and one for milk daily. They have held up through repeated dishwasher cycles (top rack!) We highly recommend them.

We wanted to avoid using a sippy cup for milk and juice because of the impact on our son's teeth. This straw cup has taken some time for him to learn, but he loves it now. We started him at 12 months and he is 13 1/2 months now. The clear straw is automatically closed with a membrane that opens up when it is pinched. This is what makes it leak proof when he isn't drinking. He doesn't have to bite down; the process of sucking pinches the straw enough to let the fluid through.
The dual straw system takes some getting used to, but make sure that the clear staw it pulled up tightly, and that the white straw gives some clearance at the bottom. To clean, we put the 2 straws inside, add some detergent and hot water, close the flip top and shake. Then I don't worry about losing the straw parts in the dishwasher. It's tough for him to get the last ounce of milk in the bottom, but that's ok. Overall, this cup is BPA free and leak proof which are great features for us.

Finally, my baby uses a sippy cup!,

We've tried a few different sippy cups but my baby (9 months old) did not get the "tilting" part and could not get any liquid to come out. This one took her three tries to figure out but now she's an old pro! :) Love it and will get a few more.

Had to return to the store,

I loved the idea of a soft, straw-type sippy cup with handles, but it simply was too difficult to drink from. I tried it myself, and it was extremely difficult. I'm returning it to the store for a refund. I can't imagine any baby being able to drink from the cup I have. (Maybe I have the one-in-a-million faulty cup and all the rest are great, but all I can say is the cup I have is the pits.)

My son was breastfed so he couldn't figure out how to tip the regular sippy cups. We tried this one and he loves it. It is dishwasher safe so it is easy to clean. It is a little hard to get the straw though the top again but it only takes a minute. He throws it when he gets upset and after a couple of weeks it is still holding on strong. I feel better that he is using his straw cup so I won't have to wean him off of something else.

Speech therapists and dentists recommend avoiding sippy cups, so we chose to buy straw cups instead. Our 11 month old loved these cups and found them easy to hold and drink from. The last ounce in the cup was nearly impossible for him to drink, unfortunately. That would have been fine if not for this cup's other problems. We have two of them. Within a few weeks of daily use, the built-in valve cracked in the center, allowing a lot of milk through at once and making it leak everywhere when dropped or waved around. The second cup suffered the same fate within a week of daily use. This is ridiculous. They are also a total pain to clean and difficult to reassemble.

I bought this cup as a 1st sippy cup for my son, then 7 months. He had a lot of trouble learning to suck on the straw b/c of the leak guard. It is very difficult (even for me) to get anything through the straw. Most likely because of the leak guard. He will mostly get water in his cups, so I will be going with a straw cup that doesn't have a leak guard.

Found Cheaper Price,

I haven't used these yet, but I am excited to. I have found the same cups at Baby Bungalow (online) for 4.95. I will purchase them through that site. Just a heads up for all those trying to save a couple bucks!
Good luck to all the mommys, daddys, and caregivers out there!

i bought this for my friends little boy and she said that its the best sippy she could have asked for. Her little boy will only drink out of the sippys with a straw attached and she said that the one she bought will leak but this sippy has a spill proof straw. Very pleased with this purchase.
