4.0 out of 5 stars New York Times Crosswords June 18, 2011

These puzzles are not as difficult as the Newspaper Sunday Times puzzles. The puzzzles are fun and all the questions across and down can be seen in their entirety. The puzzles are playable right away without the need to go on line. I hope the "NYT" has more puzzles in store for the kindle. At such a modest price one can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Love Crosswords... July 2, 2011

Better than doing them in the paper! This game worked better than I expected, there is a little "Kindle" lag but what Kindle game doesn't have a little of this? The options are great, you can "check all your answers", ask for one letter or a whole word if you're stuck. This is a great way of taking a break from reading. Right now it's only $.99. I recommend this you anyone who likes crossword puzzles.

Note the title though, they are fairly easy if you are a good puzzler. I am not, can't spell worth a clue, so they are just about right. There are also NYT crosswords that are "Challenging" available for Kindle if these are too easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Kindle Crossword Game August 1, 2011

What a great invention the Kindle is! This is one of my favorite games. I have NYT crossword on my ipad, too, but still come back to the Kindle version. It's easy to navigate, easy to read and easy to input letters. The keypad toggle makes it easy to move around quickly. It's easy to hold the Kindle and type in the letters with your thumbs. If you get stuck on a word you can have it solve a letter, a word or check for errors. I have the other volumes of the NYT crosswords, too. This is one of my favorite volumes. Never had a problem with the game, works perfectly every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than paper July 15, 2011

At best, I dabble in crosswords. I get frustrated having to wait to the next day, or look elsewhere in the paper to find the answers. I've always wished I could get hints, without revealing all the answers. The Kindle version does exactly that. With a keystroke, it also shows me where I have made mistakes, without revealing the answer. Doing so changes all the "confirmed" letters from italic to bold print and crosses out erroneous entries. Perfect!

The clues for nearby squares are all listed on the displayed page, while the current clue is displayed in larger print across the top of the puzzle. Cursor movement is easy, and you can alternate between the clues for across and down for any square by pressing the enter key.

Challenging but not impossible to complete without revealing hints... but very nice to have access to hints when I'm stuck. I also like that I don't have to complete one puzzle to start the next. I can be working on as many as I want at the same time.

I find the shortcut keys are a little awkward to hit, but that is just my fat fingers. I'm not really keen on the puzzles that have multiple letters in one square, but thankfully there are only a few of those.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awkward and Sloooow August 5, 2013
The first NY Times puzzles I solved were on my old Kindle Touch. When it died, it was replaced by a Paperwhite, which I am now using. I don't know if this book's problems stem from the device itself or from the new puzzle format, but I am deleting it. First of all is the terrible time lag. I wouldn't call it "slight," as did another reviewer. Molasses-like is nearer the truth. Second is the new format, which doesn't show the keyboard, all the clues and the puzzle together on one page. You have to flip back and forth and back and forth and it's so slow. Let's say you want to skip from 4-Across to 34-Down. You can't just do it, like in the old version. It's a big mishegas. I can't stand it.

I very much enjoy the New York Times crosswords. The Easy ones are pretty much no-brainers and an excellent way to relax and escape daily demands.

-nice level of difficulty
-good navigation

-crashes my kindle touch (back to the tree screen). Needless to say, this offsets any good features the puzzle has
