Disappointing entry in an excellent series, September 24, 2009
This review is from: NYC: Times Square (Audio CD)
I have really enjoyed three previous Soundwalk recordings; but this one, although having high production values, was poorly conceived and executed. The narrator has an irritating voice (which is a problem in an AUDIObook) and his script is much better suited to a yoga or meditation class than to a guided tour of Times Square--ex. "breathe with me, be one with me," etc. There are a lot of interesting sounds and brief interviews, but they're so poorly introduced that the overall effect winds up being more confusing than interesting. Finally, a significant portion of the tour is spent... at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. It's... a Marriott hotel, for goodness sake. I've stayed there twice, and while it was a pleasant hotel, I can say from personal experience that it doesn't merit having ANY part in a guided tour of a fascinating, world-famous neighborhood like Times Square, let alone a SUBSTANTIAL portion of the audio tour!
