Wait a minute, this isn't trance..., December 31, 2000
This review is from: NYC Underground 3 (Audio CD)
But it's still pretty good. I was listening to one of our local radio stations, where Christian B was mixin' it on the turntables and promoting his cd, "Full Frequency." He wasn't too shabby, and I actually thought about buyin his album, but then I heard a radio commercial for this album, and I was like, "cool, i'm buying this." But I kept a cautious mind, cuz all the commercial played were the good mixes, at their climax. Still, I don't regret buying this album. Some of the mixes aren't exactly my tastes, but I would still recommend it for anyone remotely associated with clubs. (Heck, Darude's "Sandstorm" makes it all worthwhile, although the mix on this album could have been better.) There are some other nice crowd pleasers, like Melanie C's "I Turn To You," and Devito's mixing is smooth. Good mixing and nice tracks make this a compliation to add for your collection. Anyways, have fun with it.

NYC AboveGround Party, January 14, 2002
This review is from: NYC Underground 3 (Audio CD)
All in all, this is a great CD. If you're looking for a year 2000 compilation of all the top house, dance and trance anthems from the year, then you need this CD. Louie DeVito has mixed a fine collection of tracks on this CD. Great tracks include "I Turn to You", "Final Chapter", "Castles in the Sky", "Zombie Nation", "Outa Space", "Sandstorm" and finally the "Underground Party Medley" by Bad Boy Joe (pretty cool - he mixes every track from the CD together on one track). My only gripe about this CD is the title - "NYC Underground". The tracks on this CD are the farthest thing from "underground" you'll ever hear. In fact, if you've been to a dance club any where in the USA at any time recently you've probably heard every track on this CD. I think "underground" is a cliche term that DJs tend to overuse as if trying to say "Listen to me! I'm hardcore! This stuff is underground, yo!". It's not. It's just a really nice track listing of great techno anthems from 2000. I gave this CD 4 stars only because it did not appeal to my personal taste in the electronic music genre. (I am a big fan of John Digweed, Oakenfold, Danny Tenaglia, Sasha, van Dyk, Seaman, Nick Warren, etc.) I stumbled across this CD by its title. I am a big fan of the Global Underground series and thought this series might be similar. It's a great CD for what it is... almost a techno yearbook from 2000, and a great buy in that respect... but not really all that "underground".

Worth the money...., May 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: NYC Underground 3 (Audio CD)
This is a good CD with lots of good songs. Unfortunately, he skips over the good songs in 3 minutes while some others...take six minutes to play through. No matter what other reveiwers said, ignore them. This CD is absolutely not worth buying for the Darude song... He takes that annoying lady from the "dive in the pool song" and puts her...lyrics all over "Sandstorm". You know that part right after the climax of the song, and it all fades to a quiet, soft melody, and slowly gets louder? The lady says "well all righ', how y'all fellin' tonigh'? Y'all fellin' good? I'm feelin' mighty good tonigh', but 'cha see bayba, it's a lotta hot in here. In more ways than one..." and she keeps going on and on and won't shut up and ruins the whole song. Now, whenever I listen to the [another] version, I am always expecting those stupid lyrics. I repeat, do no buy this for the sandstorm song. The songs are good, but there are unexpected transitions that are like hitting a wall. you jump from one song to the other. Bottom line: Good CD, worth buying, but don't expect it to become your new favorite CD.
