Wait a minute, this isn't trance...,

But it's still pretty good. I was listening to one of our local radio stations, where Christian B was mixin' it on the turntables and promoting his cd, "Full Frequency." He wasn't too shabby, and I actually thought about buyin his album, but then I heard a radio commercial for this album, and I was like, "cool, i'm buying this." But I kept a cautious mind, cuz all the commercial played were the good mixes, at their climax. Still, I don't regret buying this album. Some of the mixes aren't exactly my tastes, but I would still recommend it for anyone remotely associated with clubs. (Heck, Darude's "Sandstorm" makes it all worthwhile, although the mix on this album could have been better.) There are some other nice crowd pleasers, like Melanie C's "I Turn To You," and Devito's mixing is smooth. Good mixing and nice tracks make this a compliation to add for your collection. Anyways, have fun with it.

NYC AboveGround Party,

All in all, this is a great CD. If you're looking for a year 2000 compilation of all the top house, dance and trance anthems from the year, then you need this CD. Louie DeVito has mixed a fine collection of tracks on this CD. Great tracks include "I Turn to You", "Final Chapter", "Castles in the Sky", "Zombie Nation", "Outa Space", "Sandstorm" and finally the "Underground Party Medley" by Bad Boy Joe (pretty cool - he mixes every track from the CD together on one track). My only gripe about this CD is the title - "NYC Underground". The tracks on this CD are the farthest thing from "underground" you'll ever hear. In fact, if you've been to a dance club any where in the USA at any time recently you've probably heard every track on this CD. I think "underground" is a cliche term that DJs tend to overuse as if trying to say "Listen to me! I'm hardcore! This stuff is underground, yo!". It's not. It's just a really nice track listing of great techno anthems from 2000.I gave this CD 4 stars only because it did not appeal to my personal taste in the electronic music genre. (I am a big fan of John Digweed, Oakenfold, Danny Tenaglia, Sasha, van Dyk, Seaman, Nick Warren, etc.) I stumbled across this CD by its title. I am a big fan of the Global Underground series and thought this series might be similar. It's a great CD for what it is... almost a techno yearbook from 2000, and a great buy in that respect... but not really all that "underground".

Worth the money....,
By A Customer

This is a good CD with lots of good songs. Unfortunately, he skips over the good songs in 3 minutes while some others...take six minutes to play through. No matter what other reveiwers said, ignore them. This CD is absolutely not worth buying for the Darude song... He takes that annoying lady from the "dive in the pool song" and puts her...lyrics all over "Sandstorm". You know that part right after the climax of the song, and it all fades to a quiet, soft melody, and slowly gets louder? The lady says "well all righ', how y'all fellin' tonigh'? Y'all fellin' good? I'm feelin' mighty good tonigh', but 'cha see bayba, it's a lotta hot in here. In more ways than one..." and she keeps going on and on and won't shut up and ruins the whole song. Now, whenever I listen to the [another] version, I am always expecting those stupid lyrics. I repeat, do no buy this for the sandstorm song. The songs are good, but there are unexpected transitions that are like hitting a wall. you jump from one song to the other. Bottom line: Good CD, worth buying, but don't expect it to become your new favorite CD.

"Patchy" is the word to begin to describe Louie DeVito's "NYC Underground 3," which at times sounds like a poor man's version of the Ministry of Sound compilations. Things get off to a promising start with Mel C's "I Turn to You," and the dynamite "Spente le Stelle" by Emma Shaplin. The latter tune expertly merges opera with a flaming Hi-NRG groove that works surprisingly well. The rest of the collection, however, is as consistent as the cash flow in my checking account. We are later treated to the overlong and monotonous "Final Chapter" by Mike Macaluso. Similar tracks also weigh the album down somewhat. What works? We get a cool mix of the infectious "Dive in the Pool" by Barry Harris, and we get Dynamix's club anthem "Don't Want Another Man." Don't get me wrong; this mix isn't bad, but you have to press your "skip" button more than once to navigate your way to the good stuff on this uneven CD.

Louie Devito may not be the best DJ in the world, but this album has THE BEST selection of club songs from the past 4 months or so! This CD will get you hyped up for a night out, driving, or just blasting in your room. If you dont have any dance music cd's and want the most recent hits, just get this cd. you will not be disapointed!!

I usually don't buy Party Mix type CDs because they tend to cramp too many songs in one CD. After listening to this CD from one of my friend's car however, I went out and got this CD. This is a great CD which contains sums up some of the greatest hits from last year until now.The highlight of this CD includes Darude's Sandstorm, which was released march 2000 and was pretty much overplayed in clubs by last winter. Nonetheless this song still hypes anyone who hears it. Mel-C's "I turn to you" is a very catchy tune which is being frequently played around here in Boston since the winter. Just about everyone probably have heard zombie nation's Krenkraft 400 by now, since it was played to death in last year's Ibiza. "Final Chapter", "Someone", and "Kiss" are some other good tunes which are frequently heard in clubs. The mixing of this CD is so so. What this CD lack is development as a whole. I have been to severl real live sets of "famous" DJs such as Oakenfold, Van Dyk, Sandra Collins, Josh Wink, etc, and what seperates them from otherwise "normal" DJs is their ability to gradually bulid up the atmosphere not of one song, but of the whole set. Their CDs reflect that. This CD began with one of its best tunes but slows down quickly as the tune quality decreases after track 11 (out of 16). Overall, this is a great CD for casual clubbers who wish to listen to the songs which they heard in clubs. For more serious trance/house listeners this CD will give a "cheap" feel. As for myself, I think I will use this CD to lure my friends to listen to trance/house/techno in general.

Want to have people dance at your next party? Pop this gem into the CD player.Louie Devito does a great job of mixing some of the best dance-floor faves of 2000... some of the high-lights include "I Turn to You" by former Spice Girl Melanie C., Darude's "Sandstorm", Barry Harris' "Dive in the Pool" (for all you Queer as Folk fans...), "Castles in the Sky" by Ian Vandahl, "Someone" by Ascension, and "Take Your Time" by the Love Bite. The mixes are smooth, the transition into every song hardly noticeable. The music is good, fun, great beats, and a surprisingly varied selection... guaranteed to make most people happy, no matter their musical taste (unless they're strict head-bangers). So... warm up the body, have a cocktail or two, toss this one in, and get ready for a dance-a-licious time!

I have been a fan of Louie Devito for about 3 years now, but never was able to find the Vol 3 of his NYC Underground series. By far this is his best work. Smoth transitions for a nonstop beat aswell as some great track selections. I recomend this to anyone who like any of the other NYC albums or DanceFactory.
