Try them on and allow for stretch/shrinkage in wash
on June 4, 2010
I have purchased at least 10 pairs of NYDJ over the past few years. I am 63 and do not like a lower rise, so I am always searching for the classic fit. Some of the styles fit perfectly and have minimal stretch, and some stretch out way too much. Sizes are not consistent, probably due to manufacture in different factories or countries. My recommendation is to try on before buying if possible, and allow for shrinkage when laundered and stretch while wearing. I have altered several pairs to make the thigh area fit better. Turn inside out and try on that way so you can see how much to adjust. Baste while wearing, take off, and then sew a permanent seam. Trim excess and overcast or serge the new seam. My latest pair is miles too big and I am trying to shrink them in the dryer. If that fails, I will adjust by the above method. Amazon allows free returns before you do any alterations so that does help with the fitting issue. Jeans are notorious for driving us crazy trying to find the perfect fit, but when we do, OMG, we love them.
