Customer Reviews

Worked perfectly - simple plug and play installation.
Rodoljub Zimonjic
Install was rather easy as it is nice and small, especially since you can mount it anywhere inside your case.

This was perfect for me because I needed 3x internal USB headers.

The NZXT IU01 is the perfect solution for the longstanding problem of not having enough USB HEADERS on your motherboard.

There seems to be some confusion so I will explain. This device adds three USB headers to your motherboard. A USB header is normally located on your motherboard and serves to connect two USB PORTS. What ends up happening many times is that a computer will have four external USB ports on the front of their case and only two USB motherboard headers. Both headers will be taken up on the motherboard (2 USB ports per header), thus preventing anything else from being connected such as a fan controller or an internal media card reader. This bad boy, the NZXT IUO1, comes to the rescue and pops out three more headers inside of your computer case. Note that this card also comes with two USB ports on it to connect a standard USB device such as a flash dongle, wireless dongle, bluetooth dongle, or a myriad of other dongles. These extra two ports on the NZXT IU01 are presumably to be used for something that you want to leave permanently inside of your case, or at least for an extended period of time. Once you close the case up you will not have easy access to any of these ports until you reopen the case.

Note that you will have to open your case to install this sucker. As always follow the usual safety protocol when doing so. Disconnect the power!!! Discharge any static electricity! Wear a static bracelet if you are not too seasoned at keeping static away from delicate electronic parts. Consult your manual beforehand!

Also note, that while it says that it adds three USB headers to your motherboard, one will have to be utilized in connecting the NZXT IU01 to your motherboard so in total you will add a net of 2 USB headers and two internal ports.

I cannot say enough good things about the NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion unit. The unit installs inside your computer case using adhesive backed velcro, and connects directly to the motherboard USB header terminals, and to the power supply, providing an increased number of USB headers as well as a couple of external style ports. Finally, it is possible to have enough header pins available to connect various devices such as card readers, external port add-ons, and so forth, without running out of ports. This has been a long awaited answer to a need I've had for some time now, and it works like a charm. I hooked it up to my ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard, and found an area inside my Cooler Master HAF 932 case out of the way of other components (it's a large case, but the wires provided with the NZXT IU01 are plenty long for any number of possible mounting locations). I decided to use the internal USB ports (not to be confused with the header pins) to plug in a couple of spare thumb drives, and let the system use them for ReadyBoost, and since the thumb drives will be dedicated for that purpose, and not need to be removed for anything, I don't have to worry about taking up my valuable external ports, which are already in use by other items. Way to go NZXT, you've made life a whole lot easier for me with this innovative little product.

I read all the good reviews and bought this for a new Rampage III Extreme main board. It sure installs easy and is a perfect expansion but that is all the good I can say. My experience with this unit is that many USB devices are hit and miss. I have several different make/model memory sticks and some work and some don't work through this port. I have several different make/mode MP3 players and some work and some don't work. My Escort Radar detector can't update its databases through this port. All of these devices work perfectly if I don't use the NZXT.

Update1:
I finally heard back from NZXT tech support and they indicated that my units chipset is defective.
I will update this review when I get a replacement unit to try out.

Update2:
I got a replacement unit and am still experiencing the same exact hit and miss w/USB devices. Ugh!!

Update3:
I still haven't heard from NZXT tech support and I'm guessing I never will.
I'll take my business elsewhere the next time I am purchasing computer add-ons.

If you have a lot of USB devices and find yourself inundated by cables or constantly unplugging devices so you can plug in another, this is a handy solution. It is much better than a USB hub. It was obviously designed for gamers, but will be useful to anyone who wants to connect lots of USB devices such as wireless remotes, mouses, keyboards, etc. that use a USB receiver, or anything that will connected long enough that an internal port will be convenient.

Don't be scared of the installation process. It's very simple and the instructions are clear, if you need them. For the price, this is a great value and much cleaner than a hub.

Motherboards have connectors for USB ports that are located on the front or back of the computer case. Cables that come with your computer case connect the case's ports to the motherboard. There are two possible problems. You may not have enough connectors on your motherboard and they probably don't provide adequate electricity to power USB devices that draw power from USB connections (like portable USB hard drives).

This device connects into one of your motherboard's USB connectors. It also connects to your power supply so that power-drawing devices will receive adequate power. It turns one motherboard connector into three and also has two "external" USB sockets. The bottom attaches to an adhesive velcro pad that comes with the product. I just let mine hang free instead of sticking it to the case. I have to admit, I can't see why I might need the external sockets, but I am happy to know that my USB devices can be safely powered by my case's USB sockets. That makes an external powered USB hub unnecessary.

I'd almost dock a star for the teeny tiny print on the instruction sheet, but this device is rather simple to figure out.
