5.0 out of 5 stars Great case, August 13, 2008
This review is from: NZXT TEMPEST Enthusiast Steel ATX Midtower-Retail (Personal Computers)
Great case. Plenty of room. Advertised as a midtower. I'd say it's someplace in between an mid and full tower. With 6 fans it definitely runs cool and they run relatively quiet. If you want to monitor all of the fan speeds be sure your motherboard has enough fan headers.

The two front mounted USB ports are pretty close together making it difficult to use them both at the same time for all but the slimmest USB connectors.

I'd wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great case, July 11, 2008

has everything the 900 does and much more but with less $$$. roomier than 900, better cabling and liquid cooling friendly! For those curious as I was the case holds 8 HDD's in its 2 cages and still has 3 drive bays open for blu-ray/dvd...etc. The 2 front fans cool HDD's. The other 4 fans do a nice job of air cooling everything else. the lighting are just right, antec's are too bright like they're trying to blind me. The case itself is very sleek looking and has enough room for the largest of graphics cards and whatever other hardware. All fans are replaceable and all grills are cleanable. All in all the best case for the money, makes me wonder why others willing to spend more money on just "brand" whatever...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice case, July 12, 2008

This review is from: NZXT TEMPEST Enthusiast Steel ATX Midtower-Retail (Personal Computers)
The Nzxt Tempest Case is a excellent case. It has plenty of room inside making installing the components a easy job. It comes with all the fans (6 of them) included so cooling those components is not an issue. The bottom mounted power supply is a nice feature, keeping its heat away from the processor. This is not a light weight case, the weight is substantial. One thing that could have been added is a set of casters which would help in moving the case around. This to is a simple mod. and one I will be doing in the future. I did not like the placement of the hard drive LED (on the left side of the case) however a quick mod. put one on the front top. When the case was delivered it had damage from shipping. A quick email to the Nzxt Company brought a answer the same day advising me that replacement parts were being shipped. Overall a very nice case with great support from Nzxt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome case with plenty of room to grow, July 21, 2009
This review is from: NZXT TEMPEST Enthusiast Steel ATX Midtower-Retail (Personal Computers)
Well, first off, I LOVE this case. There is tons of room inside and although I haven't intalled a water-cooling system in the predrilled top holes, I do plan on it with my next hardware refresh. The air this thing moves is amazing - my parts are all always cool. Dust filters do their job reasonably well - in a house with 3 cats I merely have to run a dust brush over the front and side intake to clear off any build up. I should also note that this case has pretty good positive pressure going because I hardly ever need to dust out the inside - in the year I've owned it I've only had to clean my GPU and CPU coolers twice and the rest of the case not at all.

As another poster mentioned, the PSU placement does make it a tad annoying to reach certain connections, but not unreasonably so. At worst, you could get extenders. Cable management is also nice with *somewhat* adequate room behind the motherboard tray to route the cables around. An extra 1/4 or 1/2 of an inch clearence would have been awesome. Another thing that this case is missing that I would have loved to have is access to the back of the CPU for custom cooler mounting. As it is now, your mobo has to come out completely to change your cooler - but hey- this thing is only $100, what can you expect?!

There are two con points that I knocked off a star for specifically. First of all - the front UI panel (USB, firewire, esata) is EXTREMELY flimsy. Both USB ports broke within 6 months. I don't really need em as I have a card reader in one of the bays that provides me with all the ports I need, but non-the-less, something that would forseeably have so much use should be a little sturdier. I'd have let this part go, but recently the POWER button has started to act up (it won't pop back up all the time, forcing the computer to immediatly shut down - can't be good for my electronics). So I cleaned the heck out of the spot behind the panel and the button itself and its a little better - doesn't shut my computer down anymore - but still won't pop back up nicely. I haven't yet sent NZXT an e-mail about it asking em to replace it, but I expect no trouble as others' reviews make it seem that the customer support won't be lacking.

Second - the two front fans are all but useless out of the box. The problem is that there is basically a dual filter on them and behind them are the hard drive cages. Each cage can hold 4 drives, I only have 3 and I set it up so that 2 drives are int he lower one and one in the top - with all of them positioned on the out edge rails so that the center is clear open to allow air to pass through from the fans. Well, even with this set-up, hardly ANY airflow can be felt from behind the drives. The filters are basically cutting the CFM down by, well I haven't measured it scientifically but I can imagine its at least 60-70%, if not more. This is fortunatly remediable - simply pop off the front panel and remove the second set of filters underneath the metal grille filter that is part of the panel. Frees up alot of air-flow and also allows you to actually see the LED fans from the front (like the picture). With the filters in, the fans are pretty much invisible (unlike the picture).

And thats it! For the price, this case cannot be beat. The fact that all the fans are included only adds to this. Just be careful with your UI USB ports so they don't snap pre-maturely and take out that second set of filters as soon as you get it. I'm also thinking of drilling some sort of cable pass through above the motherboard tray (don't know if this is going to be possible) to allow the 4 in connector cable to run that way instead of through my case (its not long enough to go behind the board, out the hole, and all the way over to the connector area).

Also, don't let my long rant and cons prevent you from getting this case. I guarentee you for th emoney you will NOT find anything better. Check some review websites - this thing cools as well as or better then cases 2-3x its cost.

Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible simply incredible., September 15, 2008
This review is from: NZXT TEMPEST Enthusiast Steel ATX Midtower-Retail (Personal Computers)
I have been using Ultra towers for just about every build and even though they're a little cheaper this tower is incredible in every way! I upgraded my personal machine for the third time and in the Ultra tower it was getting too hot so I did some research and found the Tempest from NZXT and have been using it for over a month now and it's been on almost the entire time without fail. I have put my fans(swapped exhaust 120mm, PCI exhaust fan, PCI twin cooler fans) in the tower to help with air flow, but I'm not sure I needed them due to all the cooling provided by the included six fans. The cooling is incredible on this tower and even though it is a large tower it's built very well so I can use it over and over again without worrying about it breaking or falling apart. The noise level is minimal due to the quiet fans they used and the Blue LED's are amazing and for those that don't want a brightly lit tower this is not for you as it is like a little Blue beacon in the dark. The whole tower was well thought out as drives of any kind are easily removed or replaced and the tower can hold a total of eight HDD and three disc drives so there's plenty of room. The only issue I had was the clear window fan didn't work right out of the box so I emailed customer support and included my electronic receipt to speed things along and in 4 days I had a brand new fan without question so props to the customer service as well. Overall if you want a case that will cool any build you can come up with and offers what seems like endless expandability including water cooling then this is the tower for you. A+ across the board!

5.0 out of 5 stars A product well worth the price, August 29, 2008
By
This review is from: NZXT TEMPEST Enthusiast Steel ATX Midtower-Retail (Personal Computers)
At first I was skeptical about purchasing a case that wasn't made by a more popular vendor, but the design and functionality of this case made it ideal for the kind of work I do, and the look is just plain cool. After assembling the case and switching it on, the first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. With all of those fans on, the heat my machine let off filled the room, but my hardware monitors all show low-to-moderate component temps inside. I highly recommend this case for anyone serious about gaming and heavy graphics work, but are on a mid level budget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge case, Keeps cool, September 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NZXT TEMPEST Enthusiast Steel ATX Midtower-Retail (Personal Computers)
Pros:
1) Large case, easily can fit any video card and other components without hassle.
2) Runs very cool (6 fans)
3) Relatively quiet for how many fans there are

Cons:
1) Heavy (all steel and large)
2) Must be creative to achieve good cable management

I just want to start off by saying that this case is amazing!

I upgraded from a Raidmax case because my Nvidia GTX 260 just wouldn't fit in the case. I have a friend who had the NZXT Tempest so I thought I'd try it out. I have had this case for almost a year now and here is what I have found so far:

The Good:

First, This case is huge, but not in a bad way! I have a big video card (10.5") and it fits very comfortably with room to spare. It may be considered a "mid-tower case" but really I would have to say that it's med-large. It even has screw pre-drilled holes if you want to put a full-ATX case in here. Granted, if you want to put that in there you will be sacrificing a few drive bays.

Secondly, this case is freezing cold. There are six fans on this thing that have 3 stock pointing out and 3 stock pointing in to the case. All are comes in the front and sides and goes out the top and back. I have an AMD X6 1075T 3.0 Ghz and I run at 17 degrees C idle...with a stock AMD fan. When I overclock to 3.492 Ghz, I idle at around 25 degrees C. Honestly, there are few cases that you will find that will cool like this monster.

Third, this thing is relatively quiet for having so many fans. The loudest thing on my computer isn't my case fans but my CPU fan anyway :)

The Bad:

First, the cable management isn't that awesome; you have to be very creative to have a clean looking case.

Second, since this thing is big, it is also very heavy. It therefore isn't very easy to be lugged around to LAN parties every weekend.

The Verdict:

I don't find any of these two things to be an issue enough to take off stars.

I love this case, and if you are looking for an excellent cooling solution, this is the place!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, but a little bigger than I needed, August 29, 2009
This review is from: NZXT TEMPEST Enthusiast Steel ATX Midtower-Retail (Personal Computers)
This case is on the large side with pretty room for expansion. I recommend a decent PSU to go with it.
Solid build ...etc. just like others have observed.

This case is really great. It's very big, which is nice for a desktop that you just store under your desk. It also comes with several fans, maybe 4 or 6, which saves you a ton of money at $10 a pop. It is really heavy, but once it's set up, you don't move it anyway, so who cares.

I love it, and I've recommended it to several of my system builder friends.
