Biography

112 are a four piece hip-hop group from Atlanta. They were the good boys on the Bad Boy label and unlike their labelmates, they mixed in soul and gospel with their music. Their first single, “Only You” featuring The Notorious B.I.G., was a Top 20 in both the Pop and R&B charts and helped their self-titled debut to platinum sales. After two multi- platinum follow-ups, they moved to Def Soul for HotRead more in Amazon's 112 Store

3.0 out of 5 stars a different 112...., September 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Na Na Na / To The Crib (Audio CD)
After patiently waiting for a new cd from 112, i was surprised to find out that one had been released in July 2003 without my knowledge. I would have thought it would be all over the radio...but no....after listening to the single "Na Na Na" i could sort of see why...its a new 112, very different from the past, which normally I would think was good. I love when bands try to explore new directions and sounds with their music, but for some reason it doesn't fly here. They seem to be on a new reggae kick or something... the "Na Na Na" hook is very catchy and very "vintage" 112
"na na na na
you don't know what you're doing to me,
girl you're looking so sexy"
But the rest of the song is filled with a reggae/dancehall vibe that they just don't need at all. I know that with Sean Paul and several other dancehall artists making it big now the temptation to sample some reggae flavor is pretty big, but 112 just doesn't need it and shouldn't have hopped on the reggae bandwagon. Don't get me wrong...this new song isn't bad by any means, its just a little too diferent and seems to forced from a quartet of guys who have relied on their own strong vocals for success in the past. I doesn't help that the Amazon clip of this song starts of and is mostly the reggae rap portion of the song...give this song a try, you'll either love it or hate it....as for me, i think i'll have to let it grow on me.....

3.0 out of 5 stars Def Disappointment, August 28, 2003

At last the wait is over, 112's new single is out and it does not live up to expectations. Their first single under the wings of Def Jam isn't that bad, but its nothing compared to what this quartet are capable of. However the original remix isn't even on this single, its some remix with loads of reggae on, I was really let down with this, but I hoped that the 2nd song would save them. It doesn't, Slim, Daron Q and Mike are all struggling for lyrics when they get 1:30 into the song. So all Im saying is, I cant wait for Jagged Edges new album, Ive heard their single and its hot.

2.0 out of 5 stars I got love for Da Twelve BUT..., December 13, 2003

This song is NOT THEM. It totally does not fit their persona. I was disappointed to hear this as their first single after their long hiatus from the spotlight. Now, they're not even in the spotlight. I've been following 112 since 1996 and this is not the 112 I fell in love with. I still bought their album "Hot & Wet" and let me just say that 112 could have picked a better song to release as their first single from the new album... Any song but this one. Skip out on this single and just buy the album. There's way more better songs on there. Even "To The Crib" didn't make it to the final cut of the CD cuz the song is garbage! Please believe me when I say I am a 112 fan, it's just that I'm sooooooo not feeling this horrible wannabe-reggae song.
