Product Description

Size: 100 Capsules

When free radicals attack, fight back with NAC! As a powerful antioxidant amino acid, Swanson NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) is an important weapon in the war against free radicals. NAC helps replenish glutathione, a critical component of the body's defense system. It supports liver health and much more. FAQ Q: Does n-acetyl cysteine have an odor? A: N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a derivative of the non-essential sulfur-containing amino acid cysteine. Sulfur has an unpleasant odor commonly described as rotten egg smell. Some batches smell stronger than others.

NAC has helped significantly -- it both reduced my urge to pull and also allowed me to realize I was pulling more quickly.

Trichotillomania is a disorder related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, but it's focused on the hair -- it results in compulsive hair-pulling that is very difficult for the person to stop. I've had trich since I was 12 and it has been with me for the past 13 years. NAC has helped significantly -- it both reduced my urge to pull and also allowed me to realize I was pulling more quickly. Before NAC I would pull and pull and not be aware I had done so until the damage was done. With 1200mg of NAC on board I realize my action much sooner and am able to stop before I pull out a bald patch. It hasn't 100% reduced my pulling behavior, but it has reduced it enough that my eyebrows look normal most of the time (instead of always looking thin and awful from overplucking), I only pull a few hairs from my head a day, and I leave my scabs alone much more (many people with trich also pick at their skin). I've gone through 3 bottles of it in the past few months and the effect has been worth it for me to come and order more. Highly recommend it for those of you out there with trich.

I have found this product to be a great help with Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue. It helps lower the attacks and gives me energy with Chronic Fatigue. I highly recommend it with a product called MSM and Ribos. They all work togerther in helping with severe cases of Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue.

Acetyl cysteine is converted to glutathione in the body. Glutathione is responsible for detoxifying many potentially toxic metabolites. In particular, acetaminophen / paracetamol / Tylenol is in part converted to a toxic compound by the liver; glutathione deactivates this compound. Consequently, acetyl cysteine is given as an "antidote" for acetaminophen overdoses (assuming the liver isn't already trashed by the time the antidote is taken). I've been happy with Swanson nutritional supplements in the past, which is why I bought this particular brand.

My son has been pulling his hair out since he was six (he's almost 11) and I tried all kinds of techniques and tricks to get him to stop. Parents who are dealing with this should know, shaming and berating makes no difference. My son was already ashamed and felt so defeated by his trich that I knew his lack of control wasn't by choice. He often pulled without realizing it, like when your eating popcorn while watching a movie and before you know it, all the popcorn is gone. He also used it to sooth, like some people do with food or alcohol. Then one day I read about some studies using this supplement to help trich sufferers. I read the reviews and saw it did help some people (although not all). I didn't have high hopes, but I figured why not? It's been about three months (1 capsule a day seems to be enough for his 65 pounds) and my son now has a super thick head full of hair and I no longer see tufts of hair all around his bed. He had one little episode of pulling in the front, but once he became aware of it he was able to stop. This is the first time in 6 years that he hasn't begged me to wear a cap or try to fill in his bald spots with a sharpie marker. Even his doctor was surprised by the results. Thank goodness for the other reviewers who convinced me to give it a try.

Update: it's been a year. My son no longer pulls and he is off the supplement! I was so worried this was going to last the rest of his life. He still has a strange sensory need to "pet" his hair, but he does not pull. Yay!

Been suffering from this disorder for over 7 years. Tried all tricks available starting from cutting my hair really short to keeping my head covered. The urges were stronger than anything I knew, like a matter of survival. Came across an article about a research done with trichotillomania patients. It was studying the effect of a dosage ranging from 1800 to 2400 mg/ day of NAC, and 56% showed improvement. So I thought, let's give it a shot.

I have a very sensitive stomach and I was afraid of not being able to handle the pills. I got these and had one pill for the first day and there was no much discomfort. I did feel weird though. Second day I decided to take two pills to mimic the dosage given in the research, and WARNING, to me, taking two pills in the second day caused me breathing problems and I felt like sophacating. I read that some trials showed this side effect in rats too. I managed to go through the night and the problems wore off the next day. Well the good news is that on that day I only pulled twice, *usually tens of times*. I even tried to trigger myself and to feel my hair, but that strong sensation was gone to the most part, no urges!!

On the third day I took one pill only and there were no problems at all. In fact I am feeling all energized and only pulled twice as well. I think my body is just hypersensitive and needs less dosage.

I am honestly the happiest person on earth to see this improvement. I wouldn't have dreamt of it. Hopefully it keeps this disorder away forever. I am really so please after all these years :)

I stumbled upon NAC while researching for something to give me more energy and increase my libido. Reading more about the diverse and sometimes baffling benefits attributed to it was too much to believe. I knew I have to try it. I was joking to a friend that I have heard so many success stories about NAC that I expect it to make my life better in every way, somehow like a Aladdin Genie. I tried it and after the first few doses I felt much more energetic and in a more uplifting mood. The reduction in my mucus was a little hard to get used to but I could breath again from my both nasal canals after God knows how long. More over, the effect which has turned me into a believer is the reduction in severity and occurrence of my torturing tension headaches, which used to started from the back of my head near the ears and jaw area. I read that this might be due to anti-inflammatory effects of N-Acetyl Cysteine. I am cautious in recommending any pill or supplement to my friends, as I believe everyone should do their own research before trying anything new. What I do is, I tell them how it has helped me and maybe they want to read up to see if it might be beneficial for them too. In my case, surprisingly and luckily it has helped with mood swings, headaches and mucus reduction. I take 600 mg and sometimes 1200 mg per day.
