Few chips short of a full order of nachos..., November 3, 2006
I love the movie NACHO LIBRE. I loved the music. And for the longest time, a soundtrack did not exist for this film. How sad. But finally, it is here. But... it's not quite complete and that's pretty darn disappointing.
First of all, all the songs you heard and loved from the film are not on this CD. Off the top of my head I can clearly remember one song that is missing and that is that "bubble gum for me" song where Nacho and Skeleton buy new outfits and eat corn. Where is it?! I loved that song!
Oh but that's not all. Composer Danny Elfman wrote some amazing score, though it never felt like "oh here's the score". It fit so well with the film and was great fun to listen to in the film... but it's not here. So where's all the music he wrote? We only have one and it's for Ramses! No love for Nacho?
In short, if you liked the music you heard in the film, you'll certainly like the songs here but just know that you're not getting everything, so be prepared for some disappointment. Especially since there's a track on the cd that isn't even in the film. That coulda been left off if you ask me. Especially since we're missing so much. Let's hope they give us another CD for everything that we're missing.
p.s. The dialogue tracks are seperate from the music so you can skip them if you want, but Danny Elfman's track for Ramses has some dialogue over it. That's a shame.

A collection of omissions, November 23, 2006
Nacho Libre was a blast to see and has now entered my top ten list of favorite films. One of the elements that made this movie so successful was the great music score that accompanied the film. After the credits rolled, I could hardly wait to see what the songs were, and there were a truckload. Luckily for Nacho Libre fans of the soundtrack, a CD was released for the movie, but whoever edited and chose the selections for the CD either didn't watch the film or has a problem with knowing what a good tune is. The Nacho Libre CD won't be remembered for the various musical selections on it, but what was left out.
The music editors of this CD have selected to leave out a lot of the catchy music and replace them with spoken dialog and dubious choices. I really don't know why they dropped the ball on this as they could have done a much better job in the selection process. True, some of the main theme music is left in such as "Religious Man," "Ramses Suite," and "10,000 Pesos", but the whole movie had so much good music, that it is really a shame that the better tracks were not also included in the CD. I could have done without the dialog tracks and Jack Black's "Encarnacion." The CD isn't all bad, however, and Nacho fans will like what little good music is on there, but this CD could have been much, much better.

Call Me Next Time You Put a Soundtrack Together, December 9, 2006
Come on, guys! Nacho Libre was the most underrated, overlooked, unappreciated film released this summer, and it looks like the guys who put this soundtrack together didn't think much of it either. I saw the movie four times and loved it every single time. A great deal of its charm was the soundtrack. Great, great songs; fun, catchy and original. I wrote a letter to Paramount Studios begging them to release the soundtrack. While I am ever so greateful they did, I can't help but ask, who decided what songs would go on it? "Mucha Muchacha" is missing, as is "Bubble Gum," and at least half a dozen others. Those songs would have sounded great in the car, driving around! Also, we really don't need Jack Black singing "I am Singing at The Party," or "Encarnacion." I am very glad, though, to have some of the biggest songs from the film; "Religious Man," "Papas," and "10,000 Pesos." But the fact that they left off so many good songs still bothers me.
