This album is a nice collection of some of Frankie's Greatest Hits. It is a sad fact that he succumbed to cirrhosis of the liver while he was making this, his last album. In fact, the only title on the album not previously released is the 1st track, Vuelvo a Nacer (Which means "Born again" basically.) In this 1st song you can hear the effects of his long battle with drugs & alcohol in his voice which is noticeably raspy (more than normal.)
The 4th song, Mi Libertad is a song that was recorded after his release from prison- a song about his time within those walls and the desire for freedom again. Many of his songs have a personal relevance that many of us can relate to- it's called life.
But this album also includes many of his most famous songs that were previously released like "Bailando" and "Quiero llenarte."
Frankie's voice & savagely sensual arrangements will be remembered for a long time to come. He more than perhaps anyone else, had a gift for the sensual that is at the heart of salsa- this album covers that senuality in detail.
Frankie will be desperately missed from the world of salsa- "no hay otro como él" there was no one like him- but he will live on in recordings like these.

This album is one of my perennial favorites and one of the best salsa purchases I've ever made. EVERY song on this album is really good! Most, if not all of the songs, can also be found on other compilations -- just an indication of how many people enjoy them and how broadly they are appreciated. I've also been to lots of NYC Mambo events -- both in the clubs and at the socials, and these songs often pop up, even though they were released years ago. This album will never get old; you'll love listening to it every time!

I know you can tell the difference on his voice on this album, he didn't have much time left, but at least he left us with Nacimientos Y recuerdos to remember him by. I love the opening track "vuelvo a nacer" he really poors his sould out, and it's very sentimental. the rest of the songs you can get on other albums, it's a shame he had to go, but he's leyend will live on.
