5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Way to Practice Spanish June 9, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Reflecting the diversity of California, this collection of 23 songs, with a mixture of the English and Spanish languages in the songs, is very enjoyable. The music is, for the most part, peppy, upbeat and danceable. The cover is nice, too. Since the flag existed when California was a Republic, its use is symbolic, and it reminds listeners of the Hispanic roots of the state of California, and the theme for this collection.

Since my native language is English, this collection is a beautiful way for me to practice Spanish. It really helps with my ability to pronounce Spanish sounds correctly, and the music makes the sounds seem (almost) second nature.

Grab this one while it's on a free download; you'll be hearing a lot more from most of these artists!

A short overview of each song is provided for your reference. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

"Better Pay" Electronicia/new age (English) 5 stars
"Coco" Pop Very lively (Spanish) 5 stars
"Downtown Rockers" Punk/electronica This is a tribute to the punk rock of the 1980's. (English) 4 stars
"Escape Strategy/Pacha Macha Go Remix" Pop (English) 5 stars

"Find a Way" Pop/Jazz It has some deep and soulful guitar and band refrains. (English) 5 stars
"Follow Me" Rap/Jazz/Trance Nice horn lines. (Instrumental?) 5 stars
"I Need a Beat" Electronica Very slow tempo with strong bass lines (English and Spanish) 5 stars
"In Pea We Nuts" Jazz/Keyboard (Instrumental) 5 stars
"La Bestia" Easy Listening/Singer-songwriter style song with strong vocals (Spanish) 5 stars
"La Palabra" Jazz/electronica Remix (1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great comp from Nacional July 23, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
If you are familiar at all with Latin Alternative music, then you have heard something that Nacional Records have put out. This Label put out music by Manu Chao (if you have not heard him yet, you are missing out), Nortec Collective, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, as well as Tom Tom Club (members of Talking Heads side project who appear on this release). They have been putting out compilations yearly for a while now and they just keep getting better and better. Track after track on this release shows the strength and sheer star power that this label holds. If none of this has sold you. The best part of this release is it's free.

5.0 out of 5 stars the COOLEST sounds in Latin music May 3, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
Nacional Records is easily the coolest label in Latin music (which probably explains why they have so many gringo fans in addition to Latino alternative enthusiasts). This is a great introduction to many of the best contemporary Latin rock, electronic and hip-hop acts in the world today. Grab the sampler, and then check out the full albums...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful free sampler. June 7, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I just love this label. This is Latin music with a creative bent not just a rehash of established styles. I feel a mite guilty not buying more of the albums this music comes from then I do.

Thanks to this I discovered that I don't like Mexican music. What else can I say. Amazon requires more words.

I enjoy finding and listening to new music. This collection, as most, has some hits and some misses. Try it, you might find something you like.
