After eliminating other issues I replaced the battery everything worked fine.

My wife felt, rightly, since I already had spent a good deal of money on the BBE, that I should find the least expensive mixer possible, hence this Nady.

Which was long enough for the return date to have passed or I would have sent this back.

I have purchased three of these mixers and find them adequate for most uses. Many on-line reviews complain that connecting a 9 volt ac adapter causes a loud hum, making it useless. I have found that you must use a regulated and filtered adapter. Try using the Radio Shack Universal AC-to DC Power Adapter number 273-0028. It costs less than twenty dollars and provides pure filtered DC. Set it to 9 volts. Use the adapter plug "M" and be sure the tip is marked (-) negative. You will get clean, hum-free sound, and save on batteries.

I've only had the Nady mixer for a few days but so far it exceeds expectations. I play music with a group of friends. We're all amateurs but play publicly on occasion. We mix four mics, two electric guitars and a keyboard into one amp. The Nady works perfectly for that. We use it in mono mode so we have 8 inputs, and it's just what we need.

It seems solidly built -- sturdy, made of metal, a little heavier than I expected for its size, with smooth-moving knobs. I haven't had it long but by the feel expect it to last. (I'll update my review if not.)

Prior to getting the Nady we used an old mini-mixer but it didn't have volume adjustments for each input, which is why I bought the Nady. That feature is very handy, and it lets us compensate for the varying input levels from mics, guitars, and keyboard -- it was a big improvement. I also like that it can be battery-powered so we don't need another cord or outlet. And it has an "on" light -- our old mini-mixer didn't so it was easy to forget to turn it off.

Some reviewers, especially at some music websites, complained about the Nady's noise level under AC power. I can't address that as we only use it on battery, but in that mode noise is not a problem at all. We get more white noise from our amp; the Nady didn't add any that we could notice.

Prior to purchase I researched at a lot of small mixers online. Many seemed to be higher quality and at higher cost, but either they didn't have as many inputs, or they didn't have individual volume controls, and/or they required AC power. That's why I decided on the Nady. I'm glad I did. So far it's everything we wanted at a good price. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

UPDATE: 8/12/12
I've been using the mixer for two months and am very satisfied with it.

Wow!! Saw the reviews, and was glad to order this device. The situation is that I am running a Yamaha Motif Xf8 while controlling VB3 (via a VST player called Cantabile. Nice job guys! Great interface)from my laptop in a live scenario playing for about 1,000 people at a time. I struggled to get an even mix using the Motif Inputs to receive a good signal from my Berringer UCA202 (a fine sounding little monster, if I must say so). So, I thought I would get a yamaha submixer and just balance it from a little mixer board, so I wouldn't spend a bunch of time trying to get a stable signal from my laptop through the Motif Xf inputs. Along comes this device showing up for about the cost of the Berringer UCA202. The reviews were great! It looked small and compact, and I wouldn't need another power cord for a sub mixer. Got the item. What a piece of crap!! The knobs, to begin with, did not turn smoothly. (two of them by the way. They felt like they were having some resistance to movement, badly) Oh well, no biggy. It looks like something you would build out of the '70's from Radioshack. (Yes I saw the pictures before I bought it. I know, but it was much more dorky when it arrived). None of that really mattered to me at all. All I cared about was the functionality of it, because it would sit on the floor by my keyboard while I performed. So I plugged it in, and got right to work balancing a decent signal to send to the soundman. It clips like crazy!! The peak indicator (means it's clipping. That bugs the heck out of me, and I won't stand for it), lights up when there is the slightest variation in volume (velocity change for piano or swell for the B3 Organ).Read more ›

I'm updating this review (still 5 stars!), because over the few years I've owned this I've learned quite a lot. The product is relatively inexpensive, and does what it claims to do. For my purposes it works great.

Here's where I'd like to update my review a bit: First off, the device still works as it did when I got it, and the battery life is very good (requires 9V or a separate power supply).

The issue with this product is that it does add a bit of noise. If you're a professional, I imagine you would want to avoid this product (I also imagine at this price I don't need to tell you that). I'm leaving it at 5 stars however, because it's inexpensive. I think with any review you have to consider the product for what it is, and at this price range it simply isn't designed for professional use and won't compare to higher end equipment.

I'd like to also point out that the product I received was actually all silver, which in my opinion looks a lot better than the one pictured. I'm assuming it's just the newer model of the same product.
