3.0 out of 5 stars 2010 Nag Champa
I have purchased two 100 gram boxes of Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa over the past couple of months and both have very different aroma's. The first box smells really great, with a more aromatic smell than the second. The second box has 2010 on the seal and inside flap of the box, where the first box I purchased does not.

I'm not sure if they have changed the...

Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa is made in India by the Shrinivas Sugandhalaya company. Each stick is a special blend of natural herbs, resins, flowers and oils that are hand rolled. Each stick weighs about a gram and burns for approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

It is important to note that each sticks weighs a gram, because the company sells them by weight, not by number. Therefore if you buy a 250 gram box it equals 250 sticks and if you buy a 100 gram box it equals 100 sticks, etc.

I have been burning incense practically on a daily basis for the last 10 years and I have never found another brand of incense that can even come close to equaling the quality and fragrance of Nag Champa. THIS IS THE BEST INCENSE YOU WILL EVER BUY!

* NOTE:

In the many years that I have been buying this product the quality from the manufacturer has ALWAYS been excellent. However because this product is `natural,' it is sensitive to certain factors that will effect it's quality and are beyond the manufacturers control.

When you open the box the incense sticks should be a grey color and leave a grey dust on your hands when you touch them. It is also normal for some of this grey dust to collect at the bottom of the package (the bigger the box the more grey dust will flake off and settle to the bottom).

Once in awhile you might get a box of incense sticks that are dark brown and tan. This is an indication that they have been sitting on the shelf of the store for a long time and / or they have been exposed to damp weather conditions. This is not the fault of the manufacturer and they are still good, they will just be harder to light and their fragrance will not be quite as strong. This however does not usually happen very often.

5.0 out of 5 stars The quintessential incense, holds great sentimental value, March 12, 2004
It's difficult to review a brand of incense, and yet I'm eager to do so. I was first introduced to Nag Champa as a teenager in the mid-1990s at Journey's Bookstore, a now-closed New Age and recovery center in Beaverton, Oregon. It created such a beautiful, delicate, and peaceful atmosphere, especially when juxtaposed with the soothing music of Aeoliah playing in the background. Since then, not a month has gone by that I have not burnt at least a stick of this exotic scent. In fact, lately I have been burning several sticks a day - see, after I moved from the Portland area, my primary New Age supplier became Rosebud & Fish Bookstore in Salem. Sadly, the same fate befell Rosebud & Fish ... and at their going-out-of-business sale I bought over eighty-dollars worth of Nag Champa. I now have almost enough to open my own store!

Anyway, like I said, it's hard to write a review of incense. Perhaps I should add that the lady who managed the now-closed (see a trend?) Alexandria Bookstore at Rosicrucian Park in San Jose, California, said that Nag Champa is a "classic" incense, and it became famous in the US during the 1960s, giving it something of a Hippie association. And I remember once talking to an Indian man who said proudly that this is a very "Indian" scent (he also told me that "Nag Champa" is Hindi for "Green Jasmine"), which makes sense since it is produced in India under the auspices of the Satya Sai Baba organization. Unfortunately, recent scandals regarding Satya Sai Baba have somewhat tarnished his reputation, but they cannot detract from the fact that this is a beautiful fragrance with which I have many positive associations and memories.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2010 Nag Champa, October 17, 2010

I have purchased two 100 gram boxes of Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa over the past couple of months and both have very different aroma's. The first box smells really great, with a more aromatic smell than the second. The second box has 2010 on the seal and inside flap of the box, where the first box I purchased does not.

I'm not sure if they have changed the formula, but the second is nowhere near as good as the first. It doesn't smell as sweet and is more woody smelling. It also looks different; it's tan instead of gray.

I think I'm going to stick with the Red Nag from now on because it seems the Satya Sai Baba changes from one box to the next.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, October 18, 2010
This review is from: Nag Champa Incense Sticks 100 gms (Misc.)
I originally bought a package of these because I had heard good things about them. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the quality of the sticks. They didn't smell very strong either in the package, or burning, and I had to keep re-lighting the stick. Since all of the reviews were so good, I thought maybe I just got an old package of them, so I bought a second pack from another store. The second pack didn't smell any stronger, but they did stay lit a little better. It may just be my personal preference, but I like for my incense to have a stronger smell, so I will stick with the brand I had been using.

4.0 out of 5 stars RE: NAG CHAMPA JUMBO INCENSE STICKS, December 21, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was very pleased with my purchase of these genuine made in India Nag Champa incense sticks. They are certainly worth the money I paid for it. I have only one suggestion: vacuum pack the sticks inside the box in order to contain the scent before use. Other than that everything was perfect.

2.0 out of 5 stars Time has passed Satya Sai Baba by, April 22, 2011
This review is from: Nag Champa Incense Sticks 100 gms (Misc.)
Satya Sai Baba's Blue Box Nag Champa has long been considered the gold standard of Indian incense and 15 years ago it may have deserved that description. However with the increasing rarity and costs of the resin known as halmaddi (or mattipal), the main ingredient in all champa incenses, Satya Sai Baba at some point were rumored to have switched out the ingredient with a synthetic alternative. While this may or may not be true, I began to notice in the late 90s that what I was buying was not what it used to be. You can tell visually because incenses heavy in halmaddi still have a wet and soft touch to them and Blue Box Nag Champa doesn't anymore. In the mid 90s it was gooey enough to pull apart. Now, this nag champa is a pale imitation of what it used to be. Scent wise it used to be sweeter and richer, now it has harsh off scents, is much drier and has lost a lot of its individual character.

The good news, even for those who still love this incense, is that there are much better Nag Champa alternatives out there, some of which will remind you more of the original Blue Box champa than the new one does. Mother's India Fragrances has a line of 19 different styles. Dhuni and Shroff Channabasappa both create superb Nag Champa incenses and all of these are made with natural ingredients and still have a soft and wet touch to them. Both Dhuni and Mother's use actual halmaddi in their incenses. And while you might need to spend some money to stock up on Dhuni (which is well worth it), the other two companies have very affordable prices.

There's no reason at all to be bothering with Satya Sai Baba incense in the modern age, especially as they clearly decided at one point that quality control wasn't important. There is much better incense out there, just search for incense reviews and you're likely to leave inferior product like this behind.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Classic Scent. a great gift for smokers as well, November 3, 2011
Sai Baba is the only imported incense company that has never failed me, A truly unmistakable scent, great for relaxation. I suggest placing the burning stick in another room and let the aroma slowly take over your space as these are high quality scents that may be a bit strong. THIS IS NOT YOUR DOLLAR STORE INCENSE!

i would buy this small box to start. if you decide that you really enjoy the smells from Sai Baba Nag Champa they do offer a box containing 250 sticks for $25(A great deal) most flea markets and shops sell 10 count boxes for $8+

the quality with this company is 9/10

i hope you enjoy these incense as much as i do, buy a box and enjoy the lax environment created by one of the most popular incense Sai Baba Nag Champa!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nag Champa a sure-fire classic, November 18, 2009

Nag Champa -- Some of us were first introduced to it in college for undisclosed reasons; others may have grown up with it from having hippie parents. But the fact remains this product is consistent year after year. Although some consider it to have a strong aroma, that's what makes it so effective against unpleasant odors -- and those you hope to cover up and keep unnoticed. Each stick burns for a considerable amount of time. On a personal basis, the incense has at times acted as a sleep aid through its aromatherapy properties. The 100 gram box is the best value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very strong smell, ok if not scent-sensitive, October 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Nag champa is a classic. It is however, very strong. Even after it's out, the scent lingers on fabrics. As far as the product, it arrived on time. Packaging was fine, shipping time was fine. I think in the end I could have found it the same or cheaper around here after shipping, but that's ok. Nag is fine for now, until I can find a lighter smelling incense.
