Essential for studying the Gospel of Thomas seriously,
By Peter Kirby (Placentia, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nag Hammadi Codex II, 2-7, Vol. 2 (Vol 1) (Hardcover)
This book contains the Greek fragments of GThomas edited by Harold W. Attridge, the Hypostasis of the Archons introduced by Roger A. Bullard, the Indexes compiled by Stephen Emmel, the Gopsel of Philip introduced and translated by Wesley Isenberg, the Gospel of Thomas introduced by Helmut Koester, the Gospel of Thomas translated by Thomas Lambdin, the Binding of Codex II discussed by Linda K. Ogden, and all of this edited by Bentley Layton, who made the critical editions of the Coptic texts. The texts are presented with Coptic and English on facing pages as well as text critical notes and parallels indicated at the bottom of the page. The introductions and bibliographies are of high quality. The real value of this book is the photographic reproduction of the Coptic text of the Gospel of Thomas uncovered at Nag Hammadi. If you know Coptic and you are studying the Gospel of Thomas, this is a volume that you can't afford to do without. |
