Book Description

April 30, 2004
Interviews don't just count—they count the most. Regardless of how well you write resumes and letters, conduct research, and network for job leads, you simply must do well in the face-to-face job interview if you are to get the job offer. But conducting an effective interview is easier said than done. Your initial surge of joy in getting the interview may quickly turn into a case of sweaty palms, dry mouth, churning stomach, and wobbly knees.

No more, say Drs. Caryl and Ron Krannich, two of America's leading experts. Using an employer-centered approach, you want to nail the job interview by being prepared to respond well to critical interview questions. You do this by anticipating questions, considering thoughtful and compelling answers, focusing on your accomplishments, asking intelligent questions, and handling the interview situation with ease and confidence. If you know how to communicate well with employers, both verbally and nonverbally, you should be able to conduct a dynamite job interview that results in a job offer.

About the Author

Caryl and Ron Krannich Ph.Ds, both based out of Washington, DC, are seasoned public speakers and trainers to thousands of speakers. They have written over 30 business and personal development books. Richard Rohan is a stage and film actor, as well as an award-winning narrator. He has recorded over 100 audiobooks and has received critical acclaim for many of his performances.

From AudioFile

The writers of this guide take a mechanical approach to the task of performing well in a job interview. They meticulously classify types of interviews, the many variables in interview settings, and the possible ways to approach them. They give snappy answers to common interview questions, and discuss 17 common errors and 32 key principles to think about before interviewing. The relaxed Richard Rohan reads the busy abridgment with pacing that helps the ideas hang together. The focus is more on performing well than on being sincere or natural and, within this framework, the authors' advice is solid. It all adds up to impressive information and analysis, rather than a broader, more integrated learning experience. T.W. © AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for an experienced professional..., October 18, 2006
I got absolutely nothing out of this book, and I doubt anyone else will either unless they have very little experience interviewing. It might be a good book for high school graduates, or socially backward college graduates, but anyone who's had more than three job interviews will find it lacks insight and is terribly boring.

I had to force myself to read the whole thing, which is pretty sad since it's a very short book. The only thing that kept me going was the thought that I can't review it in good faith if I haven't read the whole thing!

This is a very good book with many ideas on interviews and related etiquette, but unfortunately it just goes over the same things again and again. It could've been cut in half easily, without any important information lost. But this is a minor complaint - I can't wait to try out principles described in the book in a real-life interview.
