ABSOLUTELY INSANE ALBUM!,
By
This review is from: Naishikyo-Sekai (Audio CD)
I've actually been a gonin-ish fan for quite some time now. This album originally came out in 2005, but they just got their american record label. So it was released again in november 2008 in america.
Gonin-ish are a japanese Progressive Metal band, but unlike any band i ever heard in my life. Their Music style is like a Opeth, Dream Theater, and Cynic all in one, but like i mentioned eairlyer they are unlike any band i ever heard. You diffidently hear the influence from those bands though. The band is VERY progressive, and without a doubt will turn many heads of the genre once they hit more ears. One minute you'll be Hearing Death metal, The next progressive insanity, than Jazzy interludes. GREAT STUFF!! The Lead Guitarist is Great. He Has same great Riffs, and awesome solos and leads. The drummer on this album is very tight, his playing is very versatile. He switches around from Death Metal to jazzyness very easily. The Bass player you can tell is a big John Myung fan. thats all i need to say lol. The Keyboard player i'd say is one of the strongest links in the band. He is amazing, and i love how he playes the acoustic piano so much, even over heavy parts. of course he switches to an electric keyboard at times, and last but not least the Vocalist/2nd Guitarist. She is a good guitarist. she has quite a few parts playing duel leads with the lead guitarist. Her Vocals are extremely unique. I never heard a Vocalist sound remotely close to her. Don't Let the Japanese vocals turn you away. The Melody's are beautiful at times. She switches back and forth to Growls/Screeches and a beautiful clean voice. This is one of the most Talented bands out there today. Dont let them slip on by!! For fans of Dream Theater, Opeth, Cynic, Between The Buried and Me, Symphony X, Scar Symmetry, and Edge of Sanity If your a fan of Progressive Rock/Metal or Fusion you should enjoy this album
