5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Synth-Pop Albums Ever.....................
This Album has to be one of my favorate albums that I own. As a big synth-pop fan, I got my self into Red Flag late. I have been a new-waver for over 15 years and have to say that I am a bigger freak now than I was back in high school. Bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, OMD, The Cure, and Camouflage, Allphavile, and etc.... kept me going in life. I didnt have much to...

I didnt have much to live for other than my music. After all these times, I am still the same listening to the same music and loving it more than ever before. RED FLAG is my new love. After finally getting this album, I was stunned to hear how great every song in this abum sounds. Most of us have heard songs like "Russian Radio" and "If I Ever" but may have not really known who it was by. I rank it as one of my favorates CD's that I own. I own over 500 CD's and most of them are from the synth-pop bands and have to say that my collection was incomplete with out RED FLAG's "Naive Art". This band sounds somewhere in between 'DEPECHE MODE' and 'CAMOUFLAGE'. Songs like "If I Ever", Russian Radio", "Give Me Your Hand", ."All Roads Lead To You", "Count To Three", "Broken Heart" and etc.............will kick start you heart beat into over drive as your heart beat doubles from the rush that this band gives. Every song in this album is a smashing hit and should be ingraved from its Beauty.
ONE OF THE BEST SYNTH-POP ALBUMS EVER MADE...............
There are lots of remixes of the hit songs "Russian Radio" and also "If I Ever" that will keep you busy dancing for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure synth-pop., July 12, 2002

One of the brightest work of electronic pop is here in Naive Art by San Diego, CA based duo Red Flag. This album is a nice collection of pure and melodic electronic pop. If you have been into groups like Depeche Mode, Camouflage, New Order etc. then you will enjoy this album. Red Flag's style of electronic pop is remeniscent of the the music by the group's mentioned with a slightly different twist. This album is a re-released version of Red Flag's debut with the exception that it has two extra bonus tracks.
This is great music for inspiration and to dance to. It offers a little bit of everything for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool machinery techno-pop, January 17, 2002
This review is from: Naive Art (Spec Edit) (Audio CD)
Probably the best -if not the only- band to come out of San Diego, CA, Red Flag's Naive Art has a very distinct machinery-techno like sound and it worked extremely well. The songs, both lyrically and musically, are quasi-reminiscent of Depeche Mode in that it is slightly melancholic and most songs are in the minor key. The techno-pop music is very upbeat and dancy, notwithstanding it's semi-"dark" nature and the hooks, though simple, are poignant and memorable. One of Naive Art's cons is that there isn't a whole lot of variation: Most of the tracks don't sound very distinct from each other, but still it's a cool album and brings a lot of late '80s nostalgia back to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Red Flag - Eighties Techno-Pop at it's best., October 9, 2001

This review is from: Naive Art (Spec Edit) (Audio CD)
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away...techno-pop successfully pushed the freestyle beats of Lisa Lisa and Shannon off of the radio waves, and out of the clubs. We all remember dancing in smoke filled, cavernous rooms; Inhaling the sweet smell of cloves cigarettes. The beats and harmonies that engulfed us, made us move, were provided by some of the most exeptional dance/new wave artists the world has ever known. New Order, Red Flag, Cause and Effect, Camouflage, and the mother of all techno-pop bands...Depeche Mode helped mold "waver" teenagers into the productive members of society that we are today. This "greatest hits" collection, as it is (only "machines" isn't present here), is just what the doctor ordered for those nights dancing alone in front of a full-length mirror. "Russian Radio" (the dance club classic) is here, along with "If I Ever" (a long-time cult favorite). If you even vaquely remember these guys, and you are a fan of any of the other bands I mentioned, pick this up. It's well worth having. Dance on...

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Synth Pop, March 2, 2002
This review is from: Naive Art (Spec Edit) (Audio CD)
Before being the underground goth-pop act they are now, the Brothers Reynolds were a highly danceable and very addicting synth-pop duo from the late Eighties. Using a sound that was very similar to such acts in its time like Depeche Mode and Information Society (INSOC's Paul Robb prodcued this record), Red Flag cranked out dance hits like "Russian Radio" and "Pretty In Pity." They've certainly had their fifteen minutes of fame, and they have left their watermark in the synth pop world with this wonderful record.

For a fan of synth pop or 80's retro, this album would make an excellent addition to your collection of synth pop. For DJs, this music mixes well with other pop music.

5.0 out of 5 stars euro synth club a la Anything Box, July 14, 1998
This review is from: Naive Art (Audio CD)
This album is a great collection of depeche-mode sounding songs. Kind of like Anything Box or Camouflage, as well. The rhythm is very clean and sounds nice on a good system with lots of bass and treble. The mood is pretty sorrowfull and mellowdramatic, and the beat is late 80s euro club. This group is from San Diego. I remember as a kid in the late 80s going to see this band perform at a small underground club in Tijuana called "Paladium." There is a song on this CD called Russian Radio that everyone here in San Diego knew the lyrics to and would sing at the clubs in Tijuana on Revolution whenever the DJ played it. Sort of like how people all knew the lyrics to Bizarre Love Triangle or something. This group has come out with a few albums locally over the last few years. They are still making 80s euro disco. It's kind of erie!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Synth-pop Albums Ever, February 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Naive Art (Spec Edit) (Audio CD)
If you remember and love the Razormaid sound of the late 80's, this is the definitive album for you. Basically a minor key synth-pop outfit with a touch of the underground club scene attached and integral to the sound. The only other album from 1989 that comes close to re-creating this materpiece is Celebrate the Nun's "Meanwhile" (hard to find - out of print - must have - find it now).

Some may complain that they are a DM rip-off, but they have a more electronic, club-oriented sound (the vocals are different too). The remainder of the Red Flag catalog deserves a look too, releases such as the "Lighthouse" (think enigma crossed with depeche mode), and "EP". Later releases around 2000 are more "goth" in nature - a harsher, more industrial sound. If you like this sound, I suggest getting into the group "Iris".

4.0 out of 5 stars Merry Halloween, February 10, 1999
This review is from: Naive Art (Audio CD)
This is the genre of music that I call: 'Machinery.' It's a synth-techno replete with machine-like sound effects. Red Flag is one of the few groups that employs this type of element into their works. But, they are very talented, and do it effectively. I have yet to listen to Red Flag's other albums, but this one is really cool. The remixes of these songs (I can't remember the name of the album, though, that contained the remixes) were done by Red Flag, and aided by Info Society's Paul Robb and other noteworthy musicians. They're really 'bitchin' as well.
