In this high-spirited, good-humored critique of the naively sensitive male, Robert Bly explains why betrayal may be what is needed to advance from boyhood to manhood.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not so naive anymore. . ., March 4, 2000

Kurt Schroeder (Rochester, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Naive Male/Cassette (Audio Cassette)
Bly's tape, The Naive Male, is a wonderful discussion that centers around the naivity in his earlier poetry, like Silence in the Snowy Fields, and the naivity in men these days. He counts down and gives wonderful examples of the "top ten" traits of the naive male. It is very funny and insightful, and I found myself relating much of it to mistakes I have made in my life. The backside is a discussion of the Betrayal that men endure, and subsuquently force others to endure, and that side is just as informative.

The only reason I give it a 4/5 is because the sound is not that great, as it was recorded live. Some of his side comments to his listeners are hard to hear, and some of it (1%) is a bit muffled, perhaps. Definately worth it.
