This review is from: Naive: Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design (Paperback)
It's 176 pages are loaded with beautiful and contemporary illustrations ranging from textiles and stationary to poster art and book covers. The editors did an impeccable job at selecting the artwork to go into this book because every page is inspiring, vibrant and shows a variety of modern artistic techniques. The artists chosen to be represented in this book are of high caliber, and their work speaks for itself. Some of the artists represented are: Helen Dardik, Matte Stephens, Jenn Ski, Hanna Werning, Public Domain & James Gulliver Hancock. The only text in this book are captions at the bottom of each page giving credit to the artist who's work is being shown. I highly recommend this book, as it's one of the most well done inspiration pieces I've seen in a long time.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. Glad I bought it. It's a good source for color palette inspiration and the illustrations are beautiful. The cover is so striking, and the interior pages don't disappoint.

I purchased this book for my husband...secretly very interested in seeing it too. We usually purchase books after holding and seeing them in person, but thru a leap of luck I decided to get this without a preview! We have a collection of very cool wonderful art and design books...and this one jumped to one of our favorites. It has a nice size and weight and printed on well selected paper but the highlight for us is the images. The collection in this book is lovely. Each artist selected fits together perfectly with the next...colors and graphics seem to jump from the page. A must for every contemporary designer/ design appreciator!

This book really is beautiful. A professor at my art school busted this thing out one day in class and I immediately knew I had to have it myself. The art work is impeccable and the book is great overall.
If this style of design is at all of interest to you then get this book now. You are going to love it. The color palettes are great and the simplicity showcased throughout the book is amazing and inspiring. And most of it has all been done within the past few years.

i saw this book on amazon last year and really wanted to buy it for my boyfriend for his birthday, but went with some different ones instead out of mere indecision. this year i was looking for something inspirational for myself to reference and i was pleasantly surprised with Naive's huge variety in content and consistency in quality. you really get the most for your buck with this book, and im glad to have added it to my collection. for any illustrators/graphic designers looking for on-hand inspiration, you're sure to find something in this 176 pg book. great buy and have never seen it at any bookstores

This book did not disappoint, with a wide variety of design that inspires and is a feast for the eyes. Would have been five stars, but it would have been helpful to include a little bio or 'blurb' about each designer and/or their work.

This is what I expected.
A wonderful collection of retro style work by today's designers and illustrators. The mid-century approach is back in style and this book has hit the bulls eye. |
