5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining!
Saw this show in Chicago twice and had to have this disc. After several months of waiting I finally was able to purchase this LA Cast recording. The wait was worth it. These guys are really fine singers and convey the electricity of the show superbly. The musical numbers range from solos to chorus pieces and are accompanied by a fabulous piano player. The variety of songs...

3.0 out of 5 stars Endearing, but not amazing.
This is just the kind of show that is really adorable when it's in front of you but on a CD lacks class and finesse.

These guys are really fine singers and convey the electricity of the show superbly. The musical numbers range from solos to chorus pieces and are accompanied by a fabulous piano player. The variety of songs is great too; they are funny, raunchy and touching. If you saw the show you can actually visualize the action that took place. Recording quality is clear and upfront. Would love to see Naked Boys Singing! make it to video and DVD, woof!!. Highly recommended. Warning: Explicit language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transparently, a Terrific Rendition, January 14, 2005
For a change, this disk bettered in many ways the performance of NBS! I saw in the Village in NYC. Perhaps without the visual distractions, one can concentrate on / appreciate the wry humor and pointed insights that abound in the lyrics. Every song on this disk diplays a strong performance, much talent, good to excellent singing and excellent sound engineering at the recording studio. In fact, given the scattershot review style of NBS!, one can certainly enjoy and appreciate this disk without ever having seen the show. Get a copy soon!

The LA cast of this show was recruited when a gay theatre found itself in dire financial straits, The Celebration. They figured musicals sell well and so does nudity, so why not a naked musical? Well, the show does nicely on CD...despite the absence of any nudity it makes for a very catchy listenable collection of songs...And you get to hear the guys perform songs that were written for them, so you get the best performances of these songs to date! Grab a copy of this one! It's the musical that you'll wish you could see! And if you have seen it...then it will keep the show running through your head.
This is a show that holds up well (no pun there) on CD. It's a testament to clever songwriting, solid musical direction, and a cast that is up to the challenge of bringing the material to life.

What a show! Whether seen in NYC, Ptown, LA, Chicago or LA this is a superb show. Could they dare put it out on DVD? I would buy it in a heartbeat. Just saw it twice this past weekend in Chicago. What a great cast. Entertaining, attractive, energetic and simply a joy! The blend of humor, dramatic, and emotional moments is terrific. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The CD brings wonderful memories of a great show. Loved the add on song in Chicago called PIZZA BOY! Hey guys...CHICAGO CAST CD perhaps?

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love clever theatre, this won't dissapoint!, June 5, 2001

Ok...it ain't Sondheim, but it's got a lot of fun and quirky lyrics and memorable tunes. "Kris, look what you've missed" is an amazing listen for anyone who's ever lost a loved one. "Window to Window" has a few odd lyrics, but the message is so real for just about everyone who's ever fantasized about another human being. I've seen the NYC cast...if you're headed to New York, don't miss this show! It's much more about the stories than the nudity (although, hubba hubba hubba, the nudity was GRAND!). It's mostly gay subject matter, but straight folks seem to like it, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, they really ARE nude on stage..., January 12, 1999
By

Who needs the single nude scene in hair when these guys sing naked on stage the whole time? Incredibly silly songs devoted to willy, or woody, or beating your meat wearing nothing more than a chef's hat and cleaver, make this album a generous giggle for gay and straight alike. The opener is very well done as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must See" in addition to a "Must Hear", February 25, 2004
By A Customer
I saw the off-Broadway show twice in New York last year. The second show was needed to fill in the gaps (no pun intended) I created by laughing and crying so hard at the first show that I missed half the lyrics. (I'm embarrassed to admit I sobbed uncontrollably during "Kris, Look What You've Missed", and laughed like a hyena during "I Beat My Meat", "Members Only", "Muscle Addiction", and "Fight the Urge".) The CD is excellent; the performers are perfect, the lyrics brilliant, clever, often hysterical and sometimes heartbreaking. You can easily love the CD without having seen the show, but don't miss a chance to see Naked Boys Singing! in the flesh (pun intended). Once you have seen the show, and the scenes that surround the songs, the CD will mean much more to you. Oh yes, by the way; not that it should matter, I'm a straight female (widowed mother and grandmother), and I'm hoping the show will be playing next year so I can take my teenage grandson and granddaughters to see it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, October 7, 2007
I watched the Naked Boys perform in Provincetown Mass. and it really was a wonderful show. The songs stick with you and I just had to have the CD. It's great quality and really not a foul form of entertainment. It's an art-form, and the way that the songs weave in and around the topic of nudity is incredible.

4.0 out of 5 stars No Holes Barred, June 10, 2007
By
"Naked Boys Singing" was a disc that came up on a web site search I did for "sounds like Bette Midler." Well, this certainly isn't Bette, but she would've had fun if they'd written her into the show! Actually, never having heard of this show much less having seen it, I found the music hilariously funny. From the opening chorus of "Gratuitous Nudity" -- that sounds like an opening intro to "Company" -- it's obvious that no holes will be barred, "Tonight we show no remorse or apology; Tonight we sing Billy Graham a doxology." "The Naked Maid" is so utterly silly that it sounds like a companion piece for "Everybody Ought to Have a Maid" from "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "An odd scenario, some say it's scary-o; it's naked stand-up comedy, except you use a broom." The mood shifts to sentimental with Vincent Zamora's "Window to Window." "Fight the Urge" is hysterically funny about unwanted elevations at inappropriate times, "Don't, please don't, don't do it, think of really ugly girls & the smell of body odor and your parents having sex, ooo!" "Robert Mitchum" is a silly homage to the real man. "Jack's Song" is a delightfully naughty ode to guys who seek relief at their own hands, punctuated by a tap dance. "Nothing But the Radio On" loads with double entendre, "Marilyn Monroe posed without clothes for a backroom calendar, one of those, the nation was shocked, mama called her a sleaze, but she sold a million calendars and tripled her fees." This soundtrack is charmingly naughty & puts a smile on your face and is so tongue-in-cheek that it ought to appeal to both genders and any orientation. Enjoy!
