1.0 out of 5 stars Tastes like its been sitting out awhile..
I was in middle of a warm work day and due to lack of other brands available, bought two boxes of Naked. I drank the first box and it was just off. It was lacking the natural sweetness and tasted like it had passed its prime. There's something off in the taste, almost as if they crush the coconuts whole and some of the shell got in and gave it that odd taste...

Preface: Growing up in south India, I used to drink coconut water almost everyday.

I haven't tried ONE or Vita. I have tried Zico (natural flavor), and it was really disappointing. Everytime I took a sip, I kept turning the tetra-pak to look at the ingredients on the back. It did say 100% coconut water and nothing else. But I am not so sure, I have never tasted any coconut water that sweet, it was just awful. Hmmm.. may be not awful, but that's just not how coconut water tastes.

Compared to Zico, Naked is way better. It is definitely the real thing, though it lacks, just a little bit, in flavor. I would give it 4 stars, but seeing Zico rated higher than Naked, I am giving this a 5 star.

If you grew up drinking coconut water, definitely buy Naked over Zico. If you are new to coconut water, mild tasting Naked might be a let down. You might like the more sweeter Zico better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good coconut water, August 11, 2010

I have been trying all brands of coconut water. I agree that the Vita Coco is perhaps the sweetest tasting coconut water. I bought the Naked Coconut water right when it became available (at a good price; keep an eye out as prices for several brands of coconut water has been fluctuating on Amazon). Anyway, Naked water is not as sweet as Vita Coco, yet not as sour as Zico. Naked water was certainly good enough to order more.

I work outside in the Texas heat quite a bit. During this summer of 2010 (with temperatures above 100 degrees) I will work up a huge sweat, literally soaking my shirt. I found that drinking coconut water, of any brand, does wonders at refreshing me and giving me the energy I need to head back outside. Indeed, one memorable day I went inside to cool off; I was literally so tired that I thought I would not be able to go back out into that heat and finish my chores. However, after chugging down a container of cold coconut water and sitting for about ten minutes, I was amazed at how refreshed I felt. I was able to head back out and work up a new sweat. From that day on I have been a real fan of coconut water.

I doubt the hype about being 'good for diabetes' and other health-related claims (I am diabetic and have found no difference in my blood sugar levels). However, coconut water does wonders at rehydrating the body: much better than Gatorade. Even Zico (which has been much maligned lately) does me great after a hot session in the heat.

So, load up on coconut water. When you are overheated and thirsty, any brand will go down great. Keep an eye on the prices, since they seem to vary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best tasting one right now, August 27, 2010

This review is from: Naked 100% Naked Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
Fast forward to January 2012, this is the best tasting one out there. I am a coconut water fan and have tried them all. ONE used to be the best before they move their production to another country. There is something about coconuts from Brazil. They are not as sweet and offer a more nutty flavor if that's what you are looking for.

This brand has a very subtle taste so if you coming from the sweeter brands, you will not like it. With all the other brands moving their production to other countries and no longer using coconuts from Brazil, this is my favorite.

Below is a review from about about year and half ago.

I have tried about 5 brands of coconut water, Amy and Bryans, ONE, Nature Factor, Zico, and VitaCoco. This one has the most subtle taste of all of them and looking at the nutritional listing on the box, seems to contain the least amount of sugar. For some, it might taste like water since the flavor does not seem to come out compared to the other brands.

Amy and Bryans and Nature Factor coconuts are way too sweet for my taste and I think they get their coconut water from Thailand. Vita Coco tastes a bit tart.

Zico used to be my favorite before they switch from all natural to concentrate and though I have not tried it, based on other people's reviews, it does not come close to any of these particular ones.

So in the end, ONE coconut will be the brand I will continue to buy and if Zico comes back into the market, I might pick them second. For my taste, the ONE brand tastes the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm from Brazil. This is the real stuff., February 9, 2011
This review is from: Naked 100% Naked Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I'm from Brazil, and when I'm home I usually drink coconut water straight from the coconut. When I moved to the states I really missed tating real good coconut water, until I tried this product. Trust me people, this is the real stuff. It's not as sweet as the othe rbrands, and real coconut water isn't supposed to be, but sour coconut water means that they took it from coconuts that aren't ripe yet. This is the best coconut water you can get in the states.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal, July 24, 2011

This review is from: Naked 100% Naked Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I will be brief and to the point:

I lived in Rio de Janeiro for many years. A daily treat at the beach was to have a vendor hack open a coconut with his machete, and drink the water through a straw. Naked 100% Coconut Water is as close to the real deal as you're going to get. It tastes as though you were drinking it from the coconut itself.

It's not a taste for everyone - especially if you like things sweet - but if you like the flavor of coconut water as it comes from the shell ... this is it!

I was in middle of a warm work day and due to lack of other brands available, bought two boxes of Naked. I drank the first box and it was just off. It was lacking the natural sweetness and tasted like it had passed its prime. There's something off in the taste, almost as if they crush the coconuts whole and some of the shell got in and gave it that odd taste.

Still willing to give it a chance, I tossed the other box in the fridge for a couple days until I could get my hands on a Zico and Vita Coco. Trying them all back to back, Naked juice loses significantly. My girlfriend said it made her want to throw up the first time she tried it. It lacks the freshness and subtle sweetness of Zico and Vita Coco. Naked seems to be more widely available, which is a shame because if this is someone's first taste of coconut water, they will be disappointed.

Go with Zico (Tetra Pack, stay away from the bottle) or Vita Coco. ONE is decent but has a strange almost chemical/artificial sweetener aftertaste, like a Pepsi compared to a Coke, a bit sweeter yet odd.

2.0 out of 5 stars Naked coco water sucks, May 11, 2011

I've been a fan of coconut water since I was a kid and until recently, other than getting it straight from a coconut, it was hard to find pure coconut water drinks without a bunch of additives and sugars (although I enjoy those too). needless to say, after trying my first brand (O.N.E.), I've been on a coco water rampage. I've tried vita coco, amy and brian's, blue monkey, zico, c20, O.N.E., etc. most are good, some are whatever (zico, vitacoco). vitacoco has days in which it tastes ok and some days I must be getting bad packages cus they suck.

Naked, however, sucks every. single. time. it hardly has that distinctive coconut scent/taste. good coconut water is supposed to be even more refreshing than water after a good work out but I don't enjoy the taste of Naked at all.

unfortunately for customers, coconut water comes at a premium price and is hardly affordable per fluid oz, so if you're going to shell out $$$ to get some, get something worthwhile, like O.N.E., C2O, or blue monkey coconut water.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst of the major brands, February 2, 2011
This review is from: Naked 100% Naked Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
Of the major brands that sell 100% juice, the Naked Juice has to be the worst I've tried. The taste was horrible and the smell was foul- comparable to sour milk. Two separate containers and both had the same taste and smell. I will be avoiding this product, and will sooner drink the plastic tasting Zico. I would recommend one of the others, 100% juice brands as an alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Coconut Water Should Taste, September 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Naked 100% Naked Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
This is exactly how coconut water SHOULD taste, and how ZICO USED TO TASTE before they ruined their product by adding sweeteners/modifying the formula. The only coconut water that comes close to this one is the ZICO in the tetra pak, which I believe are no longer being produced.

That being said, coconut water may an acquired taste to some. I personally love it. But, just because they don't add a ton of sweeteners and crap to this healthy product to make it taste like candy, doesn't mean that it's bad. I don't get all these people who are knocking this product because it "doesn't taste as good as the other brands." The only reason those other brands supposedly "taste better", which in my opinion, they don't, is because they are making the product less natural and less healthy by adding sugar and sweeteners.

For those who want true, untainted coconut water, buy this product now! You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Closest to fresh, March 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Naked 100% Naked Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I am fortunate to live in Florida and can get fresh coconut water right off the tree. However, the harvest season does not last all year & I use Naked Coconut Water to carry me until fresh is available again. Also, when traveling, the packaged water is clearly more convenient! I have tried every brand sold on Amazon & can say this is the closest to fresh (Vita Coco (plain) is 2nd closest). It certainly does not equal fresh coconut water, but is the best from a package. If you are looking for sweetened or flavored water, look elsewhere. If you want good basic (packaged) coconut water, look no further.
