5.0 out of 5 stars sounds like a mixture of Killswitch Engage and 24-7 Spyz
Advent sounds like a mixture of Killswitch Engage and 24-7 Spyz. this band is in your face at all times. the intro prepares you for a metalcore and/or deathcore juggernaut. at times, the lead singer sounds like a combination of Killswtch Engage's lead singer and 24-7 Spyz's lead singer. this band is all over the place on this album. prepare to have your ears owned. if you...

5.0 out of 5 stars Advent (RIP)-Naked and Cold, December 3, 2011

This review is from: Naked & Cold (Audio CD)
Naked and Cold is Advent's second and final album, following up 2008's Remove the Earth. This album is not for the faint of heart, but if you can get past the initial aggressiveness, you'll find that it is one of the best hardcore albums released in the last 10 years. I'll admit that it took me quite a while to get into this band and album just because it is such a punishing brand of hardcore, but now it's easily one of my favorite albums I own.

The lyrics are a little hard to make out but after you get used to Joe's voice, you'll find that they're some of the best written lyrics across any genere. The lyrics are clearly Christian, so if that bothers you, try listening to them on the internet somewhere first. I am a Christian, so I love the lyrics and they make me think about my faith a lot, which is a plus.

Musically, Advent's a monster. The guitar and bass are big and crunchy and every single song has pit-inducing riffs that will stay in your head for hours afterwards. The drums work really well with the guitar and bass and add a lot to songs, such as the buildup and breakdown in Revival. The sound overall is comparable to previous Christian hardcore bands such as Strongarm, Figure Four, etc.

I would break the album down right now, but on Naked and Cold, every song is superb. It's one of the best albums I own across any genre and will be in my regular rotation for many more years. If you're looking for a great metallic hardcore album, don't hesitate to pick up Naked and Cold. There's a reason these guys are one of the most well-respected bands in the hardcore scene.

I WAS INVITED TO LISTEN TO THIS CD BECAUSE OF MY PASSION FOR MARILLIONS MISPLACED CHILDHOOD.SO I BOUGHT IT ,AND WAS SHOCKED AT HOW COMPLETELY NON CHILDHOOD IT IS.
ALL YOU MOSHERS AND DEATH METAL ,AND THRASHERS WILL LOVE IT.
FROM THE OPENING...INTRO....TO THE END IT WILL BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT.
NOT A DEATH METAL GUY,BUT OPEN MINDED TO EVERYTHING,I WILL GIVE THIS ITS KUDOS.THE SONG NAKED AND COLD BELTS OUT SCREAMING VOCALS,AND POUNDING GUITAR WORK WITH AMAZING DRUM POWER BEATS.ALL COMING AT YOU AS IF YOU WERE A FLY,AND THEY ARE THE WINDSHIELD.
I FOUND IT GUTSY,GRITTY,DOWN IN THE DIRT WITH A BOOT HOLDING YOU THERE,BUT IT SHOWS SOME MELODIC VALUE AS WELL.
YOU CAN NOT DENY THE INTENSITY,AND THE VOCALS WILL MAKE YOU TAKE HEED OF THE MESSAGES WITHIN.
THEY ARE HARDCORE TO THE CORE,AND PROVES THIS GENRE WILL NOT GO DOWN WITHOUT A BLOOD AND GUTS WAR.....IT ROCKS HARDER,LASTS LONGER,AND PLEASES THE TRUE METAL HEAD WITH 11 KILL ME OR KILL YOU TRACKS.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT IF YOU LOVE THIS TYPE OF MUSIC.....ENJOY......
