Excellent novel on Communist China,

Eileen Chang's own translation of her Chinese novel is very well written. The story itself is heartbreaking, her characters respresenting the struggles of youth in Communist China. Eileen Chang is one of China's best examples of Realism. An excellent choice even for those not deep in the field of Chinese literature.
